I've installed/used a few sets of KYB GR2s on my old Talon TSi and Galant VR4. I currently run AGX on my Eclipse GSX. I've always had good luck with KYB and was pleased with the ride. I'm looking at swapping out the struts on my 02 WRX. I'm going to use Prodrive springs, but I was wondering if anyone had any input on the Tokico struts. Are they worth another $100 over the GR2s? If Tokico is not worth the money, is KONI?

The koni's are a far superior shock compared to the other two. Wider range of adustability and better quality valving. Plus you can get Koni's rebuilt to change the valving if you want to run higher spring rates eventually.

There really is not much comparison, the konis blow both of those clear out of the water. They're a much, much better shock than either the GR2 or AGX and better than the tokicos as well.

    +1 for Koni
The amount R&D they put into their stuff is ridiculous.

^Agree...when I was deciding on my suspension, i went with price, but if I had to do it all over again Koni would be my choice. Pay that extra $$$, it is worth it.

Koni Sport Yellow (adjustable)...You can get them for $650 shipped if u look around...I got my tokicos D-spec with Spring for $725 shipped. Before I bought my suspension 7+ months ago, the Koni's were around $700 shipped just for the shocks.

I don't think I need adjustable struts. I don't want to have to crawl under the car for the soft setting every time I go for a long drive. I'd rather have electronic adjustables at that point. That's only if I win the lottery. I really just want a descent ride all the time, but be better/stiffer than stock. $650 to $700 is way out of my price range. I'm thinking $350 on the high side. I still have to buy the prodrive springs.

^Bingo...Same as the Tokicos D-Spec...$350? for all 4? The tokicos probably cost you at least $500 for a new set w/o springs.

Not always. On the Eclipse, the back ones are on the bottom.

Hmmm...I'm pretty sure it is on top, just like the D-specs. Just a hassle for the rears because you would have to take the backseat out all the time to adjust it...Unless u drill a hole for access. Tein Flex and higher up models for the tein is the only ones I know of that u can adjust using Dampening controls...EDFE, EDFC, EFDE, FU*K! whatever it is...u know what I mean...

i just bought a full set of KYB GR-2's for $240. Supposed to be pretty good ride, we'll find out soon. Now to find a good deal on Prodrives or Eibachs.

The settings on the top VS bottom is depending on wether or not the strut is an inverted strut design. most stock replacement stuff will not be inverted strut, but a quality full coilover setup will probably be inverted strut and have the adjusters on the bottom.

my JICs are inverted strut, so the adjuster is on the bottom.

Well, I got a set of Prodrive Springs on the way. Now I just need to settle on some struts. I think I'm going with GR2s just because I've used them. I put over 80k on them on the Talon I used to have. With Eibach springs, they were awesome. From what I've read, Eibach makes the Prodrive springs anyways. So, I think the decision is made. I'm going to Vegas on Sunday, maybe I can win some strut money. If not, struts will have to wait for a little while.

yes but eibach makes springs for coilovers, race cars all kinds of stuff. They all have different spring rates too. The eibach pro kit (which is what you're referring to) has progressive springs whereas the prodrives are linera and have a higher spring rate, so they are not like getting the same thing at all actually.

At least step up to the AGX...
seriously, the GR-2s are nothing but stock replacement struts... their not really an "upgrade". You might as well just put them on your stock struts before pissing the money away on GR-2s

I was under the impression that the GR2s are about 20% stiffer than stock. Being this is not a race car, I'm not sure I need adjustables. Besides replacing 50k old struts with new ones would still be an upgrade.
