Alright guys please no flames here. I have read up a bit on NASIOC about possible mods, but I really don't know a thing about it. I have a 99 2.5 RS that I was going to sell, but I think I have decided to try and mod it instead. Now for the questions. I was wondering if its better to purchase parts online then have them installed locally or better to pick a shop you like and have them order/manufacture and install the parts? If online which sites do you guys buy from? I've visited cobb, but they seem pretty spendy. I have also been here: http://www.boxer4racing.com/ Are these good prices? Anyone have any good luck with them? I'm looking to do a full exhaust upgrade, and CAI. Any other suggestions? As far as these mods go who do you guys recommend? I was thinking stromung cat back, and borla headers. My objective is to gain some decent HP gains without losing to much of the stock sound with the exhaust. Also I was thinking of doing the kartboy short throw shifter and bushings. Is this easy to do on my own, or would anyone like to help me out with this? Appreciate all the help guys. Working on my car is not my strong point so any help would be great. Thanks, Mike
I dunno what the new MAF sensors are like but I know my 99 ate them like candy before the recall. Other than that the 99 blocks are generally considered the best RS block to modify, though I can't recall why anymore. Maybe you should buy some of the parts off that wrecked RS-T. I would HIGHLY recommend proper engine management with it though. The UTEC seems to have the most local support though you may be able to coerce Todd into doing another 99 RS Haltech install :I
Thanks for the advice, I think I'm going to check some of his stuff out. I'm thinking I want to stay away from the turbo idea though, too involved and too expensive for me. I guess I'm looking to get some power increase without spending a ton.
A lot of the bolt-on modifications can be done yourself. Things like a cold air intake, a set of headers, an exhaust system, etc. ...they just require some of your time. Lots of times, installing things on your car can take several hours. It just takes some getting used to. My MY00 RS is the first car that I have owned that I work on myself. I've learned how to install mods from www.scoobymods.com and do my own regular maintence the more comfortable I got working on the car. Modifications are out there, just compare prices and go check www.nasioc.com for customer's vendor ratings before you make any purchases. I purchased all my aftermarket parts online.
hey, personally i would buy parts through a shop. just cuase if you get the wrong part, or it doesnt work right you have somewhere to go with it. also most of the people at shops know there stuff and can be helpful. but if you can save some big bucks doing internet go for it. try subydude.com or rallitek.com as for the installing stuff normally it isnt to bad. scoobymods.com ishelpful, but also check out ravensblade impreza (just google it) he has a ery helpful mods section w/ pics and everything. from what i have heard te stromung muffler is decently loud. i am sure if you do some googling you can find sound clips. actually i think there are some on ravensblade. borla headers are nice i know AWDImprezaL has em, and they sound awsome. there was a how to on the kartboy shifter in the last scooby sport magazine. it is very simple to do. only like 5 steps. *if you want your car to sound stock, dont do what Fuji did to his exhaust*
As far as the CAI goes is it worth it to spend the extra money on the COBB, or is the AEM or Weapon-R dragon just as good for almost half the price?
someone posted up a link somewhere on here about the "ebay intake". the link lead to i-club where someone did a dyno test w/ and w/out an ebay intake&cone filter. the sheets show he got a 10WHP gain out of the setup. also he got aroudn 8-10 ft lbs of torque too. http://www.i-club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=87468 there it is.
FYI, a UTEC will not work on a 2.5RS ECU. If you dropped an EJ20 motor and ECU in there, then you could do it.
well you can modify the stock intake to be a CAI. save money instead of having to spend like 200bucks on a CAI unless you get one from ebay!
For some reason I decided not to save money like I should have, but I ordered the kartboy short shift/bushing kit, the COBB CAI(I know too expensive, but have read good things about it), borla headers, and I'm going to have the guys at Hi-Performance Art install a cat back system. I'll let you guys know how it goes.
BTW, anyone have a good hook-up on new wheels and tires? Anyone work for discount tire or anywhere similar?
haha My exhaust is just mean..... it roars! but anyway.... this is my intake setup....works quite well
Yea Fuji your setup is LOUD. I was over at Meng's when you showed up. Sorry I didn't get a chance to hang out, had to drive back up to Blaine then back to Mineeapolis for the Twins game.
