My lease will be up in a few months. I am seriously considering it, but don't know how I feel about forking over that much money for one. Anyone know anyone that has gone from multiple Subies to a GT-R?
Absolutely. I go back and forth on it. I could pay my car off and have no car payment, or for just a modest increase in monthly payment have something I have always wanted. I really do want to see what Subaru has in store for the new STi though before I make any rash decisions.
Purchase price/lease amount is one thing. Maintenance, repair, and presumably modding is an entirely different story. As a car guy, I say, heck yes! As a practical, more financially wise person (I wasn't always), no way. I don't know your financial situation nor am I asking you to disclose it, but cost of ownership for a ~40k car vs. a ~100k car is very different.
Owning a subie you can enjoy all life styles. Street life and off roading life. I am subaru guy until I die.
Can you afford maintenance? I don't mean "can you pay for it". I mean can you afford it? If so, I see no reason why not.
Personally, I would not consider a GT-R a reasonable daily driver especially in this climate. Maybe if I lived where roads never saw salt, but still probably not. The abuse a daily driver gets precludes me from spending that much money on something that will take such abuse from salt, rocks, morons, shopping carts, etc. Thus, it's a toy. Like a boat, motorcycle, motorhome, etc. Therefore, I wouldn't buy one unless I could pay cash for it. Making interest-bearing payments on toys is financially irresponsible (i.e. stupid) income notwithstanding.
the 2 cars arent really comparible imo. a few people on here have made the jump over the years. re: cost of ownership/maintenance... iirc annual upkeep averaged $2-3000 (diy) a year for the length of a loan when i was looking. $150 an oil change, $70 a qt for trans/diff fluid, $1500+ for tires every 3ish years, 2k for brakes, and $4-800 a year for tabs (less as it ages). Insurance wasnt terrible for me, but that varies quite a bit. iirc it came out to around $300 a month on top of my loan to account for the mentioned items at my low usage rate (i commute 2k miles a year and drive 2-3k "fun" miles a year) went a different route but could see adding a used one eventually. fun cars for sure.
Buying one and maintaining it would not be an issue. BUT, with that being said, its not like I have money falling out of my ears. So if a catastrophic event happened and I was out of warranty, regardless of the car I would probably be in trouble. Tabs in MN yearly would suck, as they already suck for my STi. I have a 1.4 mile commute to work, but that will change at some point. I have owned a WRX for 23 months, and now my STi for 23 months and put around 17.2k miles on each of them in that time. So mileage is not overly crazy a year. I have a dedicated set of summers and winters so tires last long enough. I would NEVER consider buying a new GT-R considering they lose about $30k in value almost immediately and then hold steady at around $75k, so I would buy used. It is still a thought at this point. When I finally have my STi paid off who knows what will be out there. I still have 1.5 years until my lease is up even. I am not going anywhere anytime soon. I researched STi's for years before I finally bought one of those. I feel like the same thing will happen with the GT-R if it does.
If you'd be looking at used, then wouldn't most cases have no warranty? Maybe just spend some money on an old R32?
Extended warranty 2010's are just about to the end of their Nissan extended warranty cycle (7 year) and 09s are eligible for aftermarket warranty (no Nissan CPO on GTRs). r32-34 and r35 aren't really comparible imho. Now r32-34 vs various STi's... better comparison re: price, output, modability, etc...
R32's are available to import, R33's had emissions testing in the US so would be the only Skyline besides the R32 that is grandfathered in because it is over 25 years old. The R34 is still too new for this and not legal in the US. (Not sure of the hoops you would have to pass through to import one here) The R35 is the only available option for me. I would most likely be trying to get a 2015 or newer.
34 is my favorite also but I do have an eye for 32,33 and the new style as well. But 34 for the win 100%.
R33 is my personal favorite body style of the GT-R. Not fan of the R32, but all other body styles are cool in my opinion, lol.
I watched the video. Next one up was Katy Perry's bouncy Elmo tits. Your post couldn't get any better if you tried.
My next video was just, "Ultimate Turbo, Exhaust, Engine And Blow Off Sounds". Entertaining, but certainly not KP bouncy Elmo tits entertaining.
In the wild, r34 looks the best to me. It's a head turner for the "right" reasons. re: size, I've never once seen a r34 and thought "that looks big." Even parked next to kei cars. the r35 otoh... looks hilariously huge driving down japanese roads.
That sounds a lot like my BOV except mine is a bit higher-pitched. If I let off around 10 psi or less it sounds like it's giggling.
Mine isn't nearly as severe and is more just the typical "STUTUTU" sound of turbo flutter. It just reminded me a bit of how mine sounds. That GTR very well may be experiencing some compressor surge, which definitely is not bueno. Looks like a pretty beefy turbo on that thing so I wouldn't be surprised. If anyone new to the world of turbos and tuning is unclear exactly what all this means, this short thread does a decent job of explaining it in simple terms. http://www.focusst.org/forum/focus-st-performance/49940-stututu.html#/topics/49940?page=1&_k=ve1pvb
I was riding my bike on Sunday when a white 2017 GTR went by. The sounds that car made made me drool.
So going from a $40k car to an $80k car is just going to be a modest bump in the monthly payment? What were you paying a month for the lease on your STI? $1,ooo??
Bet a new gt-r would qualify for one of those 5% down, 144 month loans through Woodside Credit or wherever. Who cares if you could buy an STi with the financing charge?
Just using google's payment calc and putting in 80k for 84 months and best case scenario 2% credit union loan still comes out to 1, 021$, unless I'm doing something wrong.
