Is it worth my time for me to take my VF39 WRX to a dealership in town here and see what they will give me for trade in value against another car?

Anyone have any experience with any local dealers?

I would probably go for an 08' STI or a newer 350Z if I could find a dealership that had one.

I know they will low ball I'm just wondering how bad. I am ahead on the BB by a few grand so I am wondering if it is enough so I don't lose my shorts in the trade

I have a fmic so putting it back to stock will be a PIA

When i used to work in sales, mods tended to lower the price of the trade, I recall a guy coming in with all sorts of crap on his car, our used car MGR at the time said he would give him 1k more if he took all the crap off and put it back to stock.

08/09sti please, you won't regret it.
I got a gut feeling that if you do decide to get the 350z, you'll be back.

But back on topic, try to revert it back to stock as much as you can.

Bet cha, you'll have a better deal selling it here then go get your new ride. Otherwise, everybody's waiting for a "Back to stock" sale, lol.

and yea, I'd say a Sti too over the 350z.

yea there are pros and cons of each...if I can go stillen stage II for the Z and nail down 380 RWHP that would be awesome plus I want a 2 seater. All wheel drive is the only reason I would so with the STI

I'd love me a 350z... a turbo 350z would be even better... but not as a primary vehicle... or even a track vehicle. It would be a really fun weekend cruiser tho.

OP, contact Peter ("Rabbit"), or any of the other local Subaru sales reps on here. I'm sure it's a completely subjective call by their used car manager and it will vary case by case (condition, professional install, type of mods... wheels and stereo would be an easier sale than engine... what you are trading in for, etc...), but maybe they can give you a very rough estimate.

alright I will probably get her all cleaned up and swing by soon.

and from what I have been reading the real weak point on the Z are the rods and if the tune is done correctly there will be no issues if you stay under 400 wheel horse. Stillen even offers factory warranty retention with their stage II kit that is around 350-380 wheel horsepower.

with poor tuning there have been blown motors at 350 wheel horse

dealerships blow on all trade-ins. I was offered $3,000 for my 98 Legacy GT in great shape---they flipped it on craigslist listed for $5,995...but Erik ended up getting it as his Dad works there.

I went to get a value for my STi and they offered me like 13k for it on a trade. I just sold it private party for 18k.

It can work out in rare scenarios, but right now probably not.

I would highly recommend against trading it in with mods. For one you will get more for your car on trade-in if it's stock. Also you will get more money on top of that for selling your old parts. They won't offer you jack if you try to trade it in with a lot of mods, mostly because they will play the "we don't know the condition since it's modded.......probably been ragged on since it's modded....." cards.

I've used the general rule of KBB- .5(value of mods) = value of car.

$20k evo with $10k worth of turbo and upgrades? $15k. People assume you beat the hell out of it, which is usually true.

I know a guy who traded an STi for an Audi S4. He now wants another STi.
If you're lazy you can leave the mods on.

I would put it back to stock as well. Just think of it this way...

If it was you looking to buy, would you want something that has mods on it, or something that looks 100% stock?
