This is the description of a tranny I'm watching on ebay: "SOLD AS IS!!!!!!!! This tranny was pulled from an 03 WRX 2.0L turbo 5 speed with 44K miles on it. The driver complained that when you rest your hand on the shifter it made a grinding noise inside of the tranny. the tech that took it out said that it may need an endplay set." The bidding ends tomorrow so I'd like to know if it's worthwhile. Does anyone know what the endplay set is? Does this make sense to those who know about trannies? Can anyone who knows, tell me how hard it would be to fix? Thanks![/b][/i]
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/03-S...iewItemQQcategoryZ6763QQitemZ8036009298QQrdZ1 Can you fix it yourself? I paid $900 the first time my tranny broke (5th gear bearing hub nut) and $1300 the second time (2nd gear sheared off) on a non SOA authorized transmission shop. If you can't fix it yourself I probably wouldn't bother with it.
endplay is how much a shaft (i.e. main shaft) moves front to back or back to front. So from the sounds of it the endplay kit would be a shim(s) of some sort to adjust where the shaft in the transmission would sit. But without actually seeing the kit who knows?
Yeah, I think it's too risky and now the bidding has gone to the range that it's not worth it. Thanks for your help guys. Back to the Buy/Sell thread...
