so i have one tire that is bad (not holding air and bead is torn up) and at 9/32
and i have a new tire with 10/32 on it. if i were to replace that one tire would i be ok. i know with awd you are to replace all 4 but is this too big of a difference to only replace one?

1/32 will not make enough of a difference to be detrimental. 3 or 4 would be something to worry about though.

Shibbs is right, but if you're worried, a reputable tire shop could take it down for you too for cheap cheap cheap in 10 minutes.

Yes, you could have a tire shaved very easily; however most tires come with 10/ or 11/32nds of tread new. 1 or 2 isn't much of a difference and shouldn't really mess with it.

According to the folks at Minnetonka Subaru you can safely run up to 3-4/32 difference before it becomes something to worry about.

and I called around most tires shops around town and nobody is willing to shave a tire

Just find someone with an open differential on a 2wd car and have them do a burnout for a while.

Nice. Were they new? Most of the places I've talked to will only shave new (non-winter) tires.

Norms tire quoted me 35-50 per tire, depending upon how deep they have to go.
