Ok Guys..My car is running like s**t and I am pretty sure it needs a good tune up..and other maintenance stuff..and Cleaning ...So I just wanted to see if anyone has anything important to add to my to do list before I get to work...I relize that some of this stuff can just be checked and does not need to be changed but I don't know when the last time it was done so I am doing everything I can think of...Thanks..Mohd - Change Oil and Oil Filter. - Transmission Oil Change. - Rear Differential Gear Oil Change. - Change Spark Plugs. - Change Air Filter. - Change Fuel Filter. - Tires Balanced. - Allingment. - *Clutch and Flywhell. (This won't be done by me) - New Tires. - Change Brake Pads Those will be Checked: - Brake Fluid. - Check Belts. - Check Coolent. - Check CV Boots. - Check Rotors. - Power Steering Fluid - Clutch Fluid. - Check C.O.P Please remember that I am not a pro at this..So help me
Yeah my exhaust bearings went out last week, really did a number on the exhaust gotta get it all replaced now
holy crap, how hard are you guys driving your cars? I've got 95k miles on my car and I still have the original exhaust bearings.... seriously though... How many miles do you have on your car now, Mohd? That's a pretty complete list for a tune up I think. You can check the brake pads and rotors too. You could replace the PCV valve too, those are cheap. How bad is your car running? Maybe there's something more than a tune-up needed, depending on what the symptoms are? Joel
I would suggest bleeding your brakes if you haven't in the past 30K miles and depending on your usage.
^^ OK Erick...you better start explaining...NO PLUG WIRES.. :?: :!:  the crazy thing is I never paid attention, Come to think of it I don't' see anywires..I can't believe that, but anyways...whats C.O.P, anddo i need to replace them (I hope not if they are really 100$)...Also I've heard about bleeding the brakes is that somthing I could do or not...Last what is the PCV valve...See I told u guys I was a newb .... A little more about my car: 02 WRX going into 77000miles...I have no idea what has and has not been done that's why I am trying to do it all...In terms of the condition it's running in: is what bothers me like HELL, is the fact that when I step on the gas it revs quickly to about 4k thn goes back down to 2.5 and then takes off...Not exactly those numbers but the idea of it reving high then going back down...Now doing this entire tune up might not help that problem but I been wanting to do the tune up since I bought it...A friend of mine tried to argue with me that all turbo cars are like that I am 100% sure the the car was not like that when I first got it...So somthing happened...., now I might be wrong but my clutch it seriously dying too it could be that, right :!:
yep, your clutch is dying. Mine is doing the same thing. Try not to burn it too bad so your flywheel won't get warped or really scorched. Just gently give it gas when you accelerate so the clutch doesn't let loose and you should be fine for a while. I think C.O.P. is coil on plug. Instead of one coil pack like your old impreza had, there's a coil on top of each plug.
You can't get brand new coil packs for anything less than about $75 I don't think (off the top of my head). I would not consider these to be periodic maintenance items to replace, you replace them when one dies--i.e., on an as-needed basis.
^^ Thats good to know, then I will only change them when they are dead... prezawagon your right about what u said it totally the clutch I can see now..So I am in the market for a new clutch any adivice...
if you plan on modding but have to change the clutch now hwy not upgrade to a performance oriented one now instead of burning more money to upgrade later
c.o.p. - coil on plug and don't bother unless one goes bad, mine cost 130 but that's for a 94 wrx motor that i had to get the part from canada, shipping was 30 bucks, but usually you can get them for between 75-100 dollars.
Are you following the maintenance schedule? Because you shouldn't bother replacing things that don't need to be replaced. Fluids and oils should of course be checked and/or replaced as scheduled. If you buy new tires, you'll get free alignment and balancing. And despite what most people say, I have yet to see a single car with problems caused by an old fuel filter. Modern pumps run high GPH at all times and return excess fuel back to the tank. The rate of flow is high enough that your filter would have to be COMPLETELY blocked for it to affect the engine. Also, most non-OEM wires suck. Old saying "buy cheap, buy twice" does apply. The CV boots can be inspected visually while the car is having its tires changed, or if you don't trust the hacks, jack the car up yourself and inspect. You said your car runs like sh*t. How does it run in neutral? Does it rev fine in N? If it is lurching under power, and you see the tach jump when you go WOT but your speed doesn't increase instantly, your clutch is slipping and either needs to be adjusted or replaced.
^^ Yes I believe u are correct the clutch is "slipping", I used to not understand what that term exactly meant but now I KNOW....I am going to replace it and possibly to a higher performace, but I need more and more info on understanding this issue before I decied on what to get exactly...I can understand about having a problem like that...Because this car is my first manual ...so techenically I learned on it and I was not perfect at first...so LETS START LOOKING AT CLUTCHS... Mohd
Well, I am sure it will get fixed. I am sure lots of people in MN can do a clutch swap. You'll need parts and beer. Parts first, beer second. Or as Yoda says, "Backwards your install will be."
I just got the latest import tuner mag and they have an article on the clutch swap for the bugeye.. the only reason I bought the mag for future reference for mine when I ever need to do it...
