So it looks like I'm going to be buying a new house and I will have strat commuting to work in the rex. Right now I have a Helix down pipe with no heat shield, I was looking for a way to keep things cool and i found this chimney heat shield that looks like it might work really well http://www.speedmonkee.com/detail_pg1.php?recordID=56 I was just wondering if anyone uses one of these or if anyone has any imput on them.

Sounds kind of hokey to me, you WANT your turbo to be hot.

Yeah, that's a big waste of $150. Hell my heatshielding fell off a long time ago and I haven't noticed any problems afterwards. I think if you're in MN though you may want to have something insulating the turbo just so it doesn't see any fast temperature changes to the cast casing.

Yep, the only thing the heat shield is good for is controlling heat at a stop. Otherwise, if you are moving, part of your hoodscoop actually blows air down over the turbo area. I would say wrap your downpipe or something if it really matters. That would keep the exhaust heat inside your pipe where it belongs.
