So lately I've noticed the turbo is really whiney pretty much all the time. It sounds like it may need something but I'm not sure what. Do the need to be rebuilt at a certain mileage? Also, when messing around this summer I noticed when I really pushed the car it would lose power at peak hp. Just seemed to cut out all of a sudden.

Does this sound like anything anyone has come across?

    Thank you!
    Matt

Describe the wine. Sounds like a boost leak potentially.

Someone played a prank on you and swapped the turbo for a supercharger! Got you good. lol
But seriously if it sounds like a dentist drill and you are losing power it probably means your turbo is about to blow and send chunks of compressor wheel into your motor.
Take off the inlet and see how much shaft play you have.

It's high pitch and constant. It echoes the motor perfectly and revs at exactly the same rate. It makes noise constantly, even when revving rather than actually driving.

Sad to admit this, but I do not know how to do that. Is this something for amateurs / do you know anyone that could diagnose it for me and point me in the right direction?

Sounds very much like a boost leak. Check all your connections are tight. JM is a good resource if you are unsure of yourself. I'm busy till early next week but if you still need help you could stop by my house next week sometime.

Sorry for the delay and thank you for the replies - for whatever reason the forum stopped sending notifications.

If you're still open to that, I'd love your take on it, @JasonoJordan. I am most definitely unsure of myself :)
