Well I'm going to be doing a bunch of stuff on my car this thursday and want to make sure I have everything to finish. heres the list -ebay ssautochrome front mount -step colder plugs -modded stock injectors (on there way back from witchhunter now) -vf39 with oil and cooland lines -all the hose adapter for the front mount -bov adapter for the front mount -gotta buy a k&n filter for the ebay maf housing -all exhaust already installed -I've got the gasket for the turbo Can anyone think of anything else I might need? tools etc? advice? anyone in duluth wanna come check it out let me know!
I swapped the same VF39 into my wrx, with SSAC TMIC over three days, my first time doing any major work on my car. I also put in a Perrin turbo inlet. You might consider doing the same. I understand the stock inlet can crack as it's just hard plastic. For the injectors, you'll need a lot of patience to remove the GBODs, the protective plate around them. I bought a set of stubby ratcheting wrenches from Sears, don't know how I would have done the job without them. The gaskets that came with my ebay TMIC were junk and I had to replace them, but maybe they're different with the FMIC. I used little rubber stoppers to go in the coolant lines going to the turbo to minimize the mess. It's not an impossible task, just don't plan completing the job in one day unless you're a pro.
the piping is actually quite nice but thanks for your negativity... What exactly are the green brackets of death? I've never seen them. I have taken the turbo off and done a lot of work on the car before so I think it could be done in 10hrs or so
That's the problem. I've seen ones that fit fine and others that weren't even close and needed a ton of work to get them to fit.
if you can post up pics of the install that would be awesome I am thinking about vf39 for cheap power and going with a large FMIC to avoid hacking the bump.
use some aquanet hairspray on the ic piping to make them easier to slide on and when it dries it'll make the ic couplers less likely to blow off.
Unless you're done it a few times, count on more than a normal day of work, ie 8 hrs. I hope you have some sort of EM going into effect as well. All those goodies are gonna render your stock tune useless. Also, where's the wideband??!!?!?! They are 280 bux new :nono:
how many people are helping you? if its just you byyourself its gonna be very hard to get that done in a day.
They're crash protection for your fuel injectors so your car doesn't light on fire in a bad front-end collision. Lots of people seem to think they're unecessary, and they're right, you don't need them as long as you don't crash. You have to either take the whole intake manifold off the car or bend your A/C lines to get the driver's side one out.
I just finished up with all those mods that you are doing besides the FMIC, I went with the TMIC. I didn't think the GBOD's were too bad. That is relative though. I would recommend doing as much possible DIY research as you can before the install so that you are ready to go. For example, the DIY articles that I printed out had pictures of the GBOD's removed. Without those pics it might have been difficult to find all the bolts. I thought the turbo was a little bit of a pitta at times. One thing that I still haven't really figured out how to do correctly is connect the oil return hose to the bottom of the turbo. I got mine hooked up, but there is no way that a trained mechanic would have done it the same way. Injectors kinda stunk... Not too bad to get out, but I was really nervous putting the new ones back in. Everyone talks about the injectors leaking if you don't get them in just right. You are supposed to press them in hard and feel for a click to tell you when they are in far enough. Well, I swore I never really felt a click on any of them, but there was no way that they were going to go in any further. Crossed my fingers, started it up, hasn't leaked since. I don't know what the trick is there. Also, it is really tough to get leverage on those injectors. Don't be afraid to torque and bend the hard fuel rail around a little bit. I thin that there is no way to complete the job without doing so. Hardest thing I did.. getting that dang perrin turbo inlet in without pulling the intake manifold. Ended up covering the thing in WD-40 and ramming it in with all my might. That was at about 5AM one night. Be ready for that. Try and give yourself time to do the project. I like to work on my car, but it sucks when there is a timeline to budjet. I did the whole install in two to three long sessions. Turbo inlet, ebay TMIC, fuel pump, and smaco y-pipe in round one. Turbo, GM EBCS, injectors, and fuel filter in round two. Spark plugs, bov mods, and a whole bunch of misc stuff in the end. Good luck and have fun man.
Well I started with the fmic today, I got the core and some pipes roughly mounted. not sure I want to put it all on though and not be able to drive it.or could i?
what about with a different intake that it comes with? it just came with a new maf housing and I've gotta go get an k&n filter. I'm not gonna rod on it, i just need to go places, think it will run ok?
Well that depends on the difference in size of the MAF tube. If they are the same size, you'll be ok.
I had no problems with driving my car with the FMIC installed with the maf housing. Just dont drive agressivly.
