and dont ask what i want out of my car just pic what you like.... and my RA gears are on the way, those should be in soon...
Stock engine block? I wouldn't go with anything more than a VF34. People pop those blocks all the time trying to push big power; its just not what it was designed to do. If you want to chance it a little more you could go with a VF22. I wouldn't bother with the 16G; a lot more money for not much extra performance. I definitely wouldn't touch an 18G unless I had internals. Personally I am upgrading from a VF29 to a ported polished and ceramic coated VF22. The VF29 was pretty fast (12.6 1/4 mile) and I am hoping the VF22 will be even better without a lot more lag. I'll let you all know how it goes. Check the link below for some turbo comparisons. http://www.projectwrx.com/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=33
You can do an 18g man. That is what I have planned for my 03 WRX this spring. I am so excited for the power
You can go with any of those turbos, but you won't get the full potential power of the 18g w/ stock internals and block.
VF22 dude. 18G is huge, although I believe Russ is running one. VF34, well, I can tell you that isn't worth your time...nice turbo, makes you faster, but you end up wanting a little more. 16G? I'd take the VF22 over a 16G.
I started out with a DB TD04, and than moved on to a VF34, that was definately not enough. Now I have a DB S16G w/ecutek and mod injectors. It cost more than all the IHI turbo's, but not that much more, and it has more potential, plus its rebuildable and consider the fact that with a little bigger turbo you can make more hp with less psi, which should equal reliablity. Everyone that has riden in my car at DCTC has came out with a smile. The DB S16G is just a few CFM's less than DB18G.
Do you really think an 18g is worse than a super 16? I have done so much research and have read that the 18g is a way better choice. Guess its different for a 4eat since the gearing is so much longer. We'll all get to see at the dyno day, if I am lucky enough to get in, what the 18g can do on a 2.0
Since you are going with the ra gears, I would go with the super 16g. You will get 5-800 rpm quicker spool than the 18g and you will have close to the same flow. As for 18g and stock internals, that is all myth. I have been running 21-22 psi daily driven 18g for 2+ summers and haven't had 1 problem. I think I have about 10,000 miles on my current setup. Russ
Auto's keep turbos spooled because of the torque convertor. I would say 18g on an auto and a s16g on a 5mt on a wrx
what gear set did you go with?? i tuned a 1820 with a (I think) ra gearset, and by time it built full boost, you werre are redline. If you wan't some good quick streetability, go with the 16g. it will spool quicker than the 34, flows more than the 22. I wouldn't go with the 18 just cuz of where the boost starts to come on. if you want a drag style car, go with the 18 or even the 20 and do some port work. Russ
I would go with the monster super 16g. You will have very quick spool and almost the same power as the 18g. I wouldn't even mess around with the ihi turbo's, unless you are looking for something real cheap. Russ
Ya, I can tune it, that isn't a problem. As for the modded injectors, I don't have any sitting here right now. If you run accross a set, or have a extra set I can mod them for ya. I went through witch hunter last time I did some injectors and I got them back in like a week or so. Hell, if you can get the ones out of your car I can mod them and get it all flowed and such. Just let me kow what you want to do. Russ
