I have done some searching and I still can't figure out the answer to my question. I am going to be getting a up/down pipe installed thanks to wrxboy2003!!!! My question is.... If I get a cel fix for dp do I still need a cel fix for the up pipe so I don't throw any cels? Or is there a cel fix I can get for the up pipe? I have a 05 wrx with a HKS high power cat back and no EM.

the uppipe fix is easy..all you need to do is the 2.2ohm resistor thing, takes less than 2 min

just have someone flash it. Then you know for sure it's fixed.

why? I wpuld think because stock up/down pipes are catted and when you change them to cattless the readings of 02 sensors change and they think there is a problem with emission. Thats what i think.

its because the stock uppipe has a sensor for the temp of the cat so when you don't have a cat if you plug the EGT back in (bad idea it'll burn up) it reads uber hot...i think its about the same for the dp your just monitoring the temp of something that no longer exists...both the resistor(what i used) and the ap fix the cell...the resistor is much cheaper though...like $2 for 5 at radio shak

The sensor in the uppipe is a egt sensor. When it goes over 1800 degrees it will throw a cel. Of course, if it gets to 1800 degrees, you will also be throwing molten aluminum out the exhaust also. The egt will not burn up or melt or destroy your turbo. It will actually run COOLER WITHOUT the cat then with the cat.

On the downpipe side, the rear o2 sensor is a narrowband sensor. It checks to see if the AFR is in check. IE, it is looking for cats. Most people get the p0420 cel when cruising down the freeway, that is because it wants to make sure that it still has the cats in place. A steady cruise is the easiest place to check for cats, since any variation in throttle position will change the afr quicker without cats than with cats.

Again, simple fixes with a flash or a couple of mechanical fixes. Neither one will burn down your car or destroy your turbo.

Aight thanks for clearing that up for me! I just didn't want to get it on there and they have a cel and have to talk it all apart to put some sort of fix on there. I will just buy the dp fix and I should be ok! Thanks!
