    Howdy,

First off... I'm new here (as you can see from my post count). I'm just starting to read more about modding my car as my vehicle nears the end of its warranty period. I'm thinking about getting an uppipe as my first performance mod.

I called one of the guys in the shops listed here and he quoted me $230 for the install. From what I've read, the uppipe is a PITA to get to and since I've never wrenched on my car before, I'd rather leave this in more experienced hands. Does that sound like a lot? It seems like folks here possibly do work too if so bribed with beer and food, so I'll throw that out as well to anyone that might want to help. :)

Also, are there any specific brands I should be considering. I've read that some pipes out there don't sit well and can cause leakage issues. Do the flex pipes help avoid this problem? I don't mind paying a little more to have less issues down the road.

    Thanks!

    Hey,
I persoanlly would get one with the flex pipe... also I would do the install for you in my store after hours for like $100... just did one cheaper but it was like 2.5 hrs.... on a lift with air tools...

Make sur eyou get all the gaskets you need and it should go smoothly... you may want to consider a gasket between the DP adn Catback... as we have to remove the DP to get the UP off...

Let me know if you are interested and we can organise a time to do it that works for both of us if it interests you...

ps.. I own a Meineke Store...

That may have been the fastest reply of all time. :)

$100 sounds pretty fair given the amount of work that it's going to take. So in addition to the up, I'll need gaskets for the up and the dp? Are there two gaskets for each, one on each side of the pipe?

And one with a flex pipe. So far in my very limited searching, I've found that the Helix and the TurboXS ones both have flex pipes. And a bunch on eBay that are going for like $90, but I don't mention what "brand" they are so I'm a little suspect. Any others that you'd recommend? It seems like it's just a piece of metal so I don't see how something like that would cost *that* much... but who knows.

Anyway, I'm definitely interested. And would probably be interested in watching the whole procedure just to learn more if you don't mind? Hopefully front row seats don't cost extra. :)

Assuming proper installation, I am willing to bet that any of the aftermarket uppipes will outlive your car. I have the Perrin uppipe (non flex) and have had no issues in almost 3 years of it being installed.

So my advice is to not spend a lot of time fretting about the materials and construction of a metal pipe.

nope.. you would be helping too... yeah the upipe should come with 2 gaskets.. I got mine off ebay for about $90... it has been great for 6mths now...

$230.. man I could go $150 and still feel good... ha ha ha but I am too nice.. ha ha ha

I am offfering this service at this price to meet fellow enthusiasts and help them to learn a little.. thats what it is about... of course I charge cause it is time away from my kid.. as I have said in other forums that is worth more to me than money...

DC Sports makes a flex uppipe that is cheap (~130) and is of very nice quality. If you want to know where to get one, PM me ;)

Also, if you are gonna do an uppipe do the downpipe too, hell its already off during the install, no better time to replace it.

I might be thinking about doing the downpipe and maybe doing a full TBE eventually. But it'll probably be done at a later date. And I've heard that all the pieces of the exhaust are different and have potential mating issues? So since I'm not sure which exhaust I want to go with yet, I don't know if the doing the dp right away is a good idea? Is the dp a pain to do later if I don't decide to do that right now?

Anyone see anything glaring wrong with this one:

I'm tempted to just get the Helix because people seem to like that one a lot. But it's almost $200 and it's just a piece of metal. :) Any thoughts on gutting the OEM uppipe and putting that one back on? Is "gutting" it hard to do?

As far as I can remember, you said that you go home, the wife cracks the whip, and you're in bed. :?

I would talk to Steve-o about the dc sports pipe. Once you get a pipe, get ahold of me and I can help ya out. Like Steve said, I would also look at getting a downpipe at the same time. I think Steve can get a hks pipe for around $150 or something like that. Than you would be catless. As for helping out, a warm meal and maybe a ouple of beers and I am good.

That's obviously a knock-off brand uppipe. There are a lot of factors that play in to make a good uppipe. Vendors with no name don't follow this rule and sell an imperfect, final product. Buy a brand name uppipe and be guaranteed a solid product that you won't have to worry about cracking or fitment issues.

That's what I was thinking too. I'd rather pay a little more and have something that I know I shouldn't have problems with later, especially seeing how hard these things are to get to. Then again... it is just a piece of pipe which makes me wonder... :)

    Thanks for the reply.
