I am looking for a front clip from an STI. One of my buddies has the hookup as he just came here from Cali and the rest of his family lives near a junkyard down there. Does anybody know where there is a good place to do the swap? I mean dropping it in is okay with me but the wiring and stuff will probably be a bitch to do. Let me know.

I don't think you realize what is involved in a STI swap. The whole rear end issue will stop you dead. The gas tank needs to be changed. Just so many things need to be changed. I would recomend a WRX swap as then you don't have as many issues with the axles.

IMHO the best way to do a swap is to get a smashed doner car. This way you have 97% of what you need.

Bikerboy, I would think just swapping the motor will work just fine as it will plop right in and just require some soldering work. :p Or is it absolutely necessary that the tranny and axles are swapped in as well?

its not neccessary to do the entire driveline. but you will be throwing down 300hp to a driveline that was ment to have 160hp. if you care at all for the longevity and driveability of the car you will want the entire swap (tranny, driveshaft, rear diff, axles, brakes, ect...)

if you wanted to do this i am sure that you could make the wiring work... somehow. but you will tear apart that 5spd with the first or maybe second good launch.

The easiest thing to do would be a custom tranny in an RS case with a strong push type clutch, with a WRX rear diff, rear crossmember, axles, hubs, brakes etc (can sometimes the get teh brembos from the japanese ones and the japanese rear diff etc.)

but you'd still be giving up one of the best features of the STi, which is the differentials and the gearbox and putting in inferior components. Also without a lot of annoyingess the DCCD will work like crap. (will run 35/65 all the time)

Yes you are right the motor will drop right in. But that is really the easiest part of the whole process. If you want a USDM STI swap you have to use the wiring harness and gas tank ECM, gas pedal from the same car at a minimum.

Now for the tranny, like the guys said what is the point of a stock RS tranny? The clock will be ticking on when the tranny will give out. and you dont get the best part the DCCD.

So back to my original point, get a whole car as you have 97% of the parts you need.

Yeah I plan on doing the whole thing. I figured if I were to use the sti tranny I will be needing everything else. Which is not a problem to get the parts. I do have some JDM parts on the car but I don't think it's the main parts needed. My buddy said it shouldn't be a problem getting everything. The only thing is finding a shipper with a decent price. I just realize that I will need a lot more than just the motor. Also the DCCD is a plus. I will also be doing a 22B look. I'm in the process of having a friend of mine in Jap look for a 22B front clip or what ever is left of one. Slim chance that I will find one but I'll take the chance. If I could find one then I'd do the whole 22B thing. But so far my best chance would be to do an STi. Thanks for all the info you guys have supplied. It's been very helpful. Now all that is left is just to find the parts. Keep em coming. I could use more info as I'm still learning. Thanks

SO as not to sound like a jackass there, you will be hard pressed to find a 22B front end that isn't being vultured to death in Japan. The front end body panels and fenders and such have been replicated in the past, but I wouldnt' worry too much about replicating a 22b. You might have some luck just buying a built block and finding some heads for it. With 555 units made, the 22b is a rarity, and a wrecked one is even more rare...even more rare than that is finding half of a 22B that someone is willing to send to the US instead of pick to pieces and part out in Japan. There are plenty of good options for engines that will do just as good as if not better than a 22B motor. Axis Stage 2 shortblocks are going for 2099.00 bucks. Add heads and a budget turbo and you are well on your way to making nice power. An STi tranny is nice, but you could also save some cash and get a hardened gearset like the RA's or PPG. Just some stuff to think about.

it's ok that you're just learning, but just saying "22B front clip" in front of subaru swappers is a faux pas that's bound to elicit some reactions.

they're about as realistic as me getting a unicorn powered car. Basically, there are none.

The 22B block is an EJ22G, which is not the same as the EJ22T block as it's actually a bored out, totally rebuilt EJ20G block. to make that would take a pointless amount of money for not really much benefit over just starting w/ an EJ22t block, not to mention it's easier too.

Sounds to me at your level of expertise you'd be far better off saving some omney, going with a RA or EJ20G engine and building up from there. I know the STi is the uber power and all, but my EJ20G can push out the HP an STi makes stock with bolt on mods and engine management. Like readymix mentioned PAR/MRT/STi makes some damn good gearsets you can use, and as for diffs, well KAAZ, Cusco et al. make some pretty damn good diffs, and you can swap in a DCCD + controller, but all of this takes some amount of skill and a bit more work.

but you can do it piece by piece, and not have ot do some of teh ridiculous work the EJ257 driveline swap requires and not have to pay what a EJ257 + tranny + rear diff + gas tank + rear subframe + rear hubs + rear axles + rear brakes etc. etc...

There is no such thing as a unicorn powered car? :(

I was hoping to find one and trade my Saabaru in on it.

I will keep looking for the leprechaun powered one.

If you are looking for a WRX-swapped RS, Beej is selling his, I believe.

The only problem is that he is in Georgia now.

why would you want to hassle with a turbo when the 2.5 RS makes like 250whp with intake and exhaust? :?
