u can buy a full motor swap. ie motor turbo inter-cooler wiring and ecu. but yes i recommend u do more research before u do this because my list is very very very general u need so much more then what i listed to do it not to mention by the time u get the stuff and pay someone to swap it for you because your not going to want to do it yourself unless you are ready to have the car down for at least a month. even someone experienced in swaping takes a good 2 days to week to do it.
LOLz, yeah you need to figure out exactly what you want. Best bet is to find a rolled/rear ended and total'd STi, preferably a 2005. And have around $10,000 in the bank if you want a FULL swap.
I have a 04 STI swap and I would recommend just getting a totaled car. I have done several swaps and if your doing a STI then it is really the best way to go.
Well I plan on the project sitting till it's done I have a spAre car to drive till it's finished. And sounds like finding a smashed spare car would be the key. Thanks for all the info has been helpful. I also have a guy that's done these swaps and knows a guy to do all the wireing But yes I'm doing the swap myself no matter what it takes.
The key for me is to find a smashed car with low miles for an ok price. 10k is bout the max but if have to will go over so till I find it that's what its going to take.
humm... eww. '05. I like '06 WRX swap. It's faster than STi! hahaha ... with the help of a few mods. I even got the red intake mani to go with it! hA! Having driven several STi's of different years, I'd say '06/07 STi swap.
Seems, that stupid hesitation is in all 04-07sti. Some have them, some don't. More on the 06sti for some reason... 06/07wrx swap with 6spd (and other upgrades) = FTW!
Sounds stupid but why not just go buy an '04 STi? Then you can chip and tune it and mess with it all you want. It's pretty full on doing a swap and you won't ever see the money back. Also are you willing to live with a car with the little character flaws that swapped cars have? Most have no AC, some have no heat, the power steering set up can be a pain in the butt. Electrics can annoy you for the first few months while they 'settle down'. Don't get me wrong, I'm on my second swapped GC with STi power trains inc trannys. Just don't think that once you swap that engine it's going to drive like a new car straight off. Ever considered a JDM STi swap? You can get the front clips with elective cheap on eBay. I don't want to put you off but it's a pretty big job depending on your skill level. Maybe another member might show you their 'in progress' swap to give you an idea? If you go for it, the guys and girls on here are excellent. I've never met such a nice and helpful group so you won't be 'alone'. Just think long and hard before you do it! Also think about selling your car and buying an already swapped one. The down side of this is you can't be sure what your getting, but the upside is if it's been done right it can save some heartache and $$$! Come spring time you are more than welcome to see my car 01 with usdm sti or my old car jdm v4 sti as the new owner is a good friend to see what they are like.
i've owned two cars with swapped engines...not unless you REALLY like the rs body, i'd suggest going for a complete car...another factor is the process you'd have to go through...not unless you're a skilled mechanic or have a close friend who'll do the swap and work out the 'gremlins' after the swap. finding the right engine is just the first step of an 'x' step process. in any case...good luck and try to read NASIOC and other subaru forums...
