Maybe I am wrong but does any one else think these things are going to drop in price when the 2.0 comes out? I cant imagine people asking 500 bucks for a used ap 1.0 when the 2.0 is out.
Depends on the price of the 2.0 unit. If you don't intend to use flatfoot shifting and all the other junk they added, then a 1.0 is fine for you. Especially the 99% of the people that use it just to run Cobb Stage 2.
Ok, I was NASIOC last night and some guy wanted 550 for one. People were offering him 400 and 450 and he called that low balling. I thought he sounded a little nuts.
Yes, I was thinking 450 also for mine. I'm probably going to sell it on ebay or here. Still not sure I'm selling it though. As I want to have a couple maps when I get my stuff tuned.
yes im still not sure if i want to sell mine or not, i like the whole openecu/enginutiy thing but i also kind of want the ability to have a pro tuner tune using AP.
I dont understand what the ap can do that open ecu cant do. I guess this is the first car I have owned where it is benifical to buy a tunning device. All the domestic stuff that I have ever done has been in chip or tuning form.
On the fly map switching and the fact that it's basically idiot proof. That's the difference. Now whether or not that is worth $4-600 is debateable.
I believe it's worth it for those countless people that are not as experienced as some of the tuners on here. 4-600 for a modification that is safe (for the most part) and will net you the numbers the AP can? heck ya! When I first bought my AP and getting into the WRX scene I was a total moron when it came to tuning. With that said, the 500 it cost me to add that kind of horsepower safely (in 25 minutes!) was very much worth it. Sure, now that I'm much more knowledgeable about tuning I might not drop the 500, instead spend a few hours just tuning my car for a minimal investment.
I always thought it was kind of rediculous that people were trying to sell these things used at $20 below retail. I don't see a 3% savings as a good deal.
People sold them at 20 below retail because Cobb never had them in stock. And I sold mine at 20 dollars OVER retail when I got rid of my first one. Cobb wouldn't have them for months at a time. And nobody wanted to be on the waiting list.
Well thats an obvious supply and damand situation there. I would say there are way more ap's for sale then buyers right now.
Cause I was talking to Russ about my vf39 and he said it would be alot easier if I had an ap cause he would have a tune ready to go for an ap.
Im looking at getting one soon also, hopefully...but I really don't want to spent more than $400. (<-- Also can't see paying close to retail for a used 1.0) I need some suspension 1st though I guess.
the reason they still fetch a high price is for the fact they dont wear out and they will perform the same way whether brand new or 2 yrs old (if they have ben looked after) its not like you are buying a modded STi that has been returned to stock and sold as 'STOCK'.. it is what it is...
I disagree, there a computer. And just because they are running programs that are close to the same, a used one has been doing it for a while or sitting in a glovebox closet etc... Not that I wouldn't buy one in good shape, but I don't think there worth over $400
then dont buy one.... its that simple... some people think it is a worthwhile investment some dont... just like some people think aftermarket altezza lights are sexy... ok so it is used once to flash you ecu.... sits in a cupboard / closet for 12 mths... so what has that got to do with the price of oil??? its still worth what people will pay for it... if you dont want to pay for it fine.. go buy a BRAND NEW 2.0 use it once and be exactly where youwould be with an 1.0 only an extra $200 poorer... I see your logic ha ha... :yarly:
could you flash your ecu with an AP and then copy the flash on the ecu with a taxtrix cable, unmarry the access port and then reflash the previously coppied rom? if your not looking for a protune, if this works then you could just go ahead and do this and then sell the Ap. yes i know there is open ecu.
