So, i have this floating idea of attacking Vegas this summer around August. I plan on having a week of vacation and use it to drive down to Vegas in a car rental...( I'm thinking a V6 2010 Camaro). So, i would like to hear from those of you who have done a trip of this kind on your; 1) Suggestions of hotels in Vegas (cheap is good) 2) Bars, Casinos, Night- life entertainment 3) Stop-overs along the way, states... 4) Rough estimate budget spent on accomodation, gas, car rental, toll fees 5) AOB (Any other Business) Thanks!
There is no way to budget for gas, it COULD be 2 bucks a gallon by then, or it could be 6 bucks, my best advice, make an estimate on gas prices now, and double it.
1) Suggestions of hotels in Vegas (cheap is good) off the strip 2) Bars, Casinos, Night- life entertainment hit every buffet possible 3) Stop-overs along the way, states... can't stop here, this is bat country 4) Rough estimate budget spent on accomodation, gas, car rental, toll fees depends on quantity of hookers and blow 5) AOB (Any other Business) hookers and blow
1) Suggestions of hotels in Vegas (cheap is good) All the hotels have great deals if you book a package with them. Or if you plan on gambling some in there casino. (exmaple: Beligao = 4 hours of Poker gives you a Comp'd hotel room.) Some of the nice hotels we saw were; TI, Flamingo (awesome pool area) and the New Aria. 2) Bars, Casinos, Night- life entertainment If your able to get in to the Palms Bars... I hear its an awesome party. But getting in is tough and pricey. Otherwise the Subzero Bar, Coyote Ugly, and One bar across from Planet Hollywood that was good. (forgot the name Some kind of devilish name) Plan two - three days of strip fun. Its alot of walking if you wanna see things. The night life and day time are completly different. Lots to see at both times of the day.
I don't believe in gambling, but i can hangout in a bar if my buddies or gf are gambling Thanks Brian...Is the parking at the hotel an extra fee and restricted? ( In Chicago downtown area parking was extra and you couldn't leave the lot unless you are checking out)
Yea there isnt much parking on the strip. A few have a valet parking for the casino area, but nothing free of course. Your hotel will offer free parking and have shuttle services. Cab rides can be cheaper then parking a vehicle.
Spend most of your trip at yellowstone maybe check out pikes peak then stay on the strip in vegas for a day or two and head home. And get more of an economy car, it'll be fun and save you some money. Nobody along the way is gonna care if you're in a camaro.
Pikes peak never has races going on, but its something I suggest EVERYONE does, and its MUCH funner in a subaru, and yellowstone is fun in a subaru. Climbing any of the mountains is fun in a subaru.
+1 for Yellowstone, Hell if you're in that part of the country you might think about Glacier National Park. The "Going To The Sun Hiway" or whatever the heck it's called is a pretty cool drive.
Then i'll consider that option of penny slots and drink free...1 bet/1 line. Having studied how a slot machine works, is the reason as to why i don't believe in gambling.
my .02 having lived out in that neck of the woods for awhile (see mohave desert) I made the trip to vegas plenty of times. Avoid it during the heat of summer. Even in the evenings I have experienced heat up to 100 f at 02:00 in the morning. You will be far better off going in late september or early october. Or soon.
A few of you have never been to Vegas it seems. Book your hotel rooms Tues-Thursday. That is when they are absolute cheapest. I got a 3rd penthouse level suite in the Mirage for 89 dollars a night. During the weekend it's 300/night. Don't consider the coins you toss at the slot machines as gambling. You aren't playing them to win or lose, you are playing them for the free booze. Best way to conserve your quarters (don't bother with penny slots, the drink girl doesn't give ten ****s about you since you aren't really spending any money) play the slot machine ONLY WHEN YOU ARE IN VIEW OF THE DRINK GIRL. She will see you playing, and ask for your drink order. Wait for your drink, no need to continue playing the slot machine at this point. Wander the strip, there's plenty to see and do and you can pull that quarter-slot-free-drink scam at EVERY HOTEL on the strip, whether you are staying there or not. They don't care. You appear to be pissing your money away on their 99% failure rate quarter games, you are more than welcome to a free drink on them. Rent an economy car. It will get you to all the spots you want to see for alot cheaper. When I left San Diego, gas was 2.89/gallon for premium, right over the border in Nevada it was 3.13/gallon. Nevada has no qualms about stuffing their giant penis in dry with regards to the gas. PREPARE to be raped, because you most certainly will be. Bring a jacket. The desert is NOT warm during the early spring/late winter months. It dips down, and it does so very fast. It'll be 90 one minute, then an hour later it'll be upper 40's. And the wind can be relentless when the cold rolls in.
I did a similar trip, but going the opposite way. Flew into Vegas, rented a car Zion/Bryce NATL park down to Grand Canyon Sedona meteor crater in NM, Sante Fe (the better half wanted to see the artsy crap) up to Pikes Peak (took the Cog Railway up to the top - highly rec'd) flew home from Denver Was a lot of driving, but there is actually a lot of cool stuff to see.
im flying there in 17 days because its way cheaper than driving but driving makes sense if you wanna travel t places like yellowstone and grand canyon. This will be my first time as well, we are staying at the flamingo for 4 days of hotel for 300 bucks divide that by 2 and its cost me 150 bucks for 4 days of sin. the flamingo is right in the middle of the strip and I hear the pools are amazing there. i was also told to go see the free light shows I believe in downtown vegas. I heard the buffet at the mgm was one of the best. I wanna go see pwn stars just cause its a touristy and I would like to see how ridiculous they charge for things. anyways thats all I got will let you know more after i return.
Wallah! 150 bucks for 4 days, can't beat that! Are they weekdays or weekends? *Pwn Stars?* ( more details..)
Kind of sad how gas prices are killing the road trip. I'd stay on the strip. You can get rooms pretty cheap at most places if you look. If you're on the strip you can walk just about any where. You can't go wrong with the buffet suggestion. See how many you can go to. Stay away from the restaurants unless $75/person sounds like fun. no gambling? then why bother. Everyone (not just you) knows slot machines are a losing bet. It's paying for entertainment. The slot machines in vegas are a lot more entertaining than anything in MN. I didn't know this until recently, but a lot of places in vegas have free and unrestricted parking.
I don't think many car rental companies do the unlimited mileage thing anymore, do they? If not, the mileage charges are gonna kill you.
