If you go over posted speeds by enough and do it often, it might be worth it. Nothing will save you from instant-on radar or laser though.

Ok, How about the Vu Foundation? LOL :D

On Topic here... John, you don't drive fast enough to warrant a radar detector. IMHO: Out the extra cash into your car payment or save it up for your next car.

I'm just lucky I've gotten away with a few incident... Incident I won't name... John and Matt... not a word from you two (some how, I feel like I've just set myself up for something) :(

Yeah, the reason I want a V1 is because I like to drive
below speed limit, if my V1 goes off I would speed up to
speed limit so I would not get a ticket for going too
    slow!! :D

Thx guys, now other fellows subaru member who
don't know me really think I drive slow!!!!

You may want to look into the Escort 8500 too. About $100 less than the Valentine for similar performance, but it does't have the cool direction indicators.

I think one of the listers still works at Audio King, maybe he can get you a deal.

Skip the passport and go righ to the valentine. No other radar will compare. The 8500 does not even come close. I got a V1 and I was traveling in a traing with some other friends of mine who have sport cars and my v1 started going off way before theres did. The best example for how much better advance warning it has is coming around lake minnetonka there is a house with a security system that sets it off. On my friends 8500 it does not go off right until you are at the house where my v1 starts going off coming around the bend. The v1 has been my best investment as it has saved my ass multiple times. True it is not able to detect instant on radar or lases but if you are in a group of cars the cop has to hit the one in front of you before he can get at you. The only thing that is better would be a laser diffuser which I am looking into as I most commonly drive about 15-20 over the posted and need something a bit more protective although it is gonna be hard to get my hands on one seeing as how they are now illegal in MN. My advice is get it as it will be the best investment you can ever do in your subaru. I would even encourage you to get the concealed display so that all them peeps around you who do speed dont pack in tight expecting you to save there asses. You could check mine out sometime if you do end up getting one and wish to install the concealed display. If you got any more questions about them I might be able to help you out.

I have the 8500.. only because in my case it was $200 less than the V1.. still, I wish I had gotten the V1. I can detect X, K, and Ka from FAR away (I always run it in highway mode on pilot display), but I hate that I do not have directional arrows. I wish I had forked out $200 extra for the V1.

    And yes, it's worth it.

And no, it won't help usually with Laser (if the operating officer knows how to use it right), or with instant on. Also won't protect you from a pacing squad... so you still have to keep your eyes open.. think of it as simply an extra set of eyes that can see lightwaves you can't ;-)

Where did you get that info?

    From Mn state statutes

    http://www.revisor.leg.state.mn.us/stats/169/14.html

Radar jammer. For purposes of this
section, "radar jammer" means any instrument, device, or
equipment designed or intended for use with a vehicle or
otherwise to jam or interfere in any manner with a
speed-measuring device operated by a peace officer.

No person shall sell, offer for sale, use, or possess any
    radar jammer in this state.

    nothing about laser jammers

Unless I am mistaken they are the same thing. If you can find a place inside MN were a laser diffuser/shifter is for sale please let me know cause I can not currently can not find one. They perform the same activity to not allow the laser or radar to track the vehicle until the device is turned off. My car stereo guy told me all about this when I told him I was in the market looking. John, i will get my serial number off of it tonight for you to do the update thing on the website. I believe the cost for update on mine is about 229 but I will just get ya the update thing so you can see for yourself.

I will look for more info, but any radar devices are regulated by the FCC, and laser devices are regulated (strangely) by the FDA. I thought the laser thingies were legal.

I have a laser jammer and have talked to my friend who is a washington county sherif who says they are not illegal.

The reason it is regulated by the FDA is that a laser was first cleared for use as a medical device and would be governed by the food and drug admin.

How recently did you talk to him about the situation because all of the laser jammer/diffuser/deflector/ whatever the hell you wanna call it, were outlawed only recently. I tried to look at your link to see when that was posted but I could not access it.

    V1 is teh hawtness.

I aming going to screw the non suction cup mount into that mini flip down shade sometime soon too.

I would be cautious about buying one off of ebay. If you want to look, ask for the serial # and check w/ Valentine to make sure it isn't stolen. Won't matter how old it is, because you can get any V1 upgraded to the latest version for a nominal fee.

From what I'd heard, laser "shifter"/jammers were legal because the FDA controls lasers, but if that "speed measuring device" law bs includes laser/lidar then we're f'ed again.

    Jake,

I like your set up, but did you hard wire your V1? Do you unplug everything and lock it the glove everytime..like going to the movie, mall, etc,??

I am looking up ebay for one, and yes, I been asking for the serial# too to make sure is not stolen or the latest version.

In your word has the V1 really worth the money? Have any tickets??
    thx

Yes my V1 is hardwired, I leave it up there unless I am in a really iffy part of town.

I got one ticket with it, but it was unavoidable, some Sunday 7:30 AM speeding up 94 going to Detroit Lakes. I crested a hill at speed and a Highway Patrol car hit me with KA. There was no one ahead of me or ahead of him to get hit with radar to tip me off. He was essentially running in silent mode until he saw me. Lesson learned though: You need: A) a dumb cop that leaves the radar on all the time or B) other people to get hit with radar/laser ahead or behind you so the detector can pick it up. Oh and don't crest hills at speed when no one else is around.

I've not gotten a ticket since then, and I've had a few close calls.
