So I'm getting ready to install a VF39, modded injectors, fuel pump, and SSAC TMIC into my 2005 WRX. I've found lots of good DIY post with pictures on Nasoic. But I'm still a little scared about the turbo and the injectors. Any tips on making the process easier? Do I have to bleed the coolant lines to the turbo and how? Tips for removing the GBOD to get to the injectors? Are they just called Green Brackets of Death for fun or is GBOD an acronym for something else. Thanks MNsubaru.

    Injectors:
I just took the whole intake manifold off when I did mine. If you take the airbox & washer fluid resivior out and bend your A/C lines on the driver's side you can get the GBOD's off with the manifold on the car, but it sucks.

    Turbo oil:
Once you get everything hooked back up, disconnect your fuel pump relay or your crankshaft position sensor so the engine won't fire and crank the starter for 15 seconds or so to pump oil back into the turbo.

    Turbo coolant:
Leave the lid off the coolant tank (top of engine, pass side) while you let the car warm up so air bubbles can escape. Keep the tank topped off. Once its fully warmed and the thermostat starts to open it'll start overflowing and you can put the lid back on.

    For the turbo install:
To oil the new turbo, pulling the ignition fuse works too.
Have a clamp or plug ready for the coolant lines... it can get messy.
The oil return line was the hardest part for me. I found it easiest to attach it to the turbo first then to the return hardline.

    For the SSAC install:
Hardest part was matching up the elbow since the vf39 sits slighlty differently than the td04... still pretty easy.
Also, if you havent already, port match the gaskets and toss the bov.

Might as well do a turbo inlet too no?

IMO The turbo is the easy part. The injectors are what suck. Also make sure you have all your lines for the vf39. Lines like the coolant lines and the oil drain lines.

Is the new turbo inlet worth the added expense? Any suggestions on which brand? Idget, what do you mean by port match the gaskets? Is my stock BOV preferable to the SSAC BOV?

One more thing, should I use new gaskets for the UP and DP, o-rings around the injectors?

turbo inlet is worth it, the stock one has been known to occasionally crack under pressure as its made of accordioned plastic. its one of those things thats easy to do now (especially if you are removing intake manifold) and worth doing.

Throw away your SSAC BOV. its junk. use the stocker.

port matching the gaskets means using a dremmel or other tool to make sure that the gasket is as big as the port. its pretty simple

The Perrin turbo inlet seems like a good value. Or should I be looking at something else?

Yes, yes, and yes. Get them from the dealership with the club discount.

Also wipe the o-rings on the top of the injectors with some silicone or some other lube that's not bad for rubber before jamming the fuel rail back down on top of them. If possible, after you install the injectors fire up your fuel pump to leak test the fuel rails / injectors before you put everything else back together.

Agency Power makes an aluminum one that's pretty cool. Perrin ones are okay, they have some minor fitment issues sometimes. Ask around on the forum, somebody probably has one laying around their garage.

How do safely run the fuel pump before putting everything back together?

??? Not sure what that is supposed to mean. ???

As far as the UP DP gaskets go, I have a set I'm willing to part with. I got them heavily discounted from the dealership, so I'm down with selling them at that price.

Since you are getting my set of injectors, they already have new o-rings on them.

You can hook up the fuel lines and turn on the key without trying to start it before putting the GBOD's and everything else back on. That will pressurize the system so you can check for leaks before making the fuel rails inaccessible again.

The GBOD's are just crash protection for your fuel system, BTW. Your car works fine without them but it will probably light on fire and burn you to death in a bad front-end crash.

Its too fast for crashing. LOL. Maybe side-feeds are less prone to leaking when they get banged around.
