Just outta curiosity... So, I'm still pretty new to the forum and I haven't been to that many events yet, so I thought I would ask... Is there anyone on here that drives a vintage (let's say pre '90) Subaru? EA1, EA2, Brat, FF1, hell 360-Lol? I am aware of Chux and Yuseforester. Anyone else? No unnecessary and disparaging comments from the peanut gallery... that means you Idget. ;)

My car is a 2005, but I'm vintage.

I appreciate the sentiment. ;) I'm a photographer in 2012 (nearly 2013 ) who still prefers shooting film and drives an '84. And NO I am NOT a hipster. I was cool before the hipster was invented.

What?! Dude, you've seen my house. You know I love vintage. You know what they say. The older the berry, the sweeter the vagina.
    Did I get that right?

Hmm. No, that doesn't count... at all. Failure of epic proportions. And I might agree with you on the "gheyness" level, but surely the owner has to count for something... so UBER GHEY it is. Especially parked next to that uber ghey Porsche. Girlie man.

I have a mint condition 1987 Subaru GL wagon. Rust free. Dent free. 1.8L 5 speed. Front wheel drive, with a transfer case to put it in 4lo or 4hi. Shat brown interior, kind of a dead grass beige exterior. It currently resides in Oregon, at my mothers house. Has approximately 216,000 on it. I'll dig thru my archives and see if I can find a pic of it to post.

Fantastic. But or course it's in Oregon. Where all the other vintage subes are. And they are jealous. Don't let em try to convince you otherwise. ;)

I have rallied the crap out of this thing. Hill climbs, mud puddles, jumped it, etc... and it still drives like a Suby should! When I lived in Oregon still it was my beater car. I plan on moving back there next summer, then the wagon will receive a lift, lower geared ring and pinions, a bigger Carb, and some all season tires. Economical hunting/fishing mobile!

I just moved (back) to the Cities from Portland, OR and I have an amazing 1988 DL which is in great shape....except for the head gaskets don't like cold minnesota winters :( I love the car though so I hope I can find a reputable mechanic who will give me a decent price for the repair! Welcome! Another pre-90's Suby on here! Sorry... I get excited. ;) Chux and Yuseforester seem to be the resident pros with EA82s. I'm taking my 84 GL to Hopkins Auto (http://www.hopkinstireauto.com) for a couple issues, exhaust leak by the manifold and a blower unit issue, (as recommended by Yusef) on Monday. They seem friendly and Yusef says they are very knowledgable and reasonably priced. I'm very interested to get their input... I'll let you know what the results are...

If the cost is too steep maybe you should keep it and just do an EJ22 swap. :D

like the engine and stuff? I'm going to take some pictures because my mechanic from portland said he could diagnose my head gasket problem just by looking at where the leak was visible. I'll post it here as well!

Are you sure it's an 88? I'm kinda guessing it's older than that...

FYI, if you ever make a trip back to the NW, please let me know ahead of time, I'll send you with a parts list and some cash... vintage suby parts are HARD to come by around here, especially the wretched 4x140 lug pattern. :bounce:

She has very little rust. I'm making sure i get a car wash monthly to prevent salt build-up

Yeah, the salt is no bueno. I really need to spray-liner the lower 1/3 of the g-wagon. Prolly shoulda did that whilst it was still warm out.

Honestly, I don't think monthly is enough. I wash mine weekly, or every time the roads dry up after bein blasted with sand. But that's just my opinion. Some people may have other opinions.

Update... I got the g-wagon back today! The exhaust issue has been remedied (I forgot how quiet my engine actually is) and I HAVE HEAT! HEYO! HEATO! ...sorry, I can't describe how nice it is to have heat after not having it YET this winter. My experience with Hopkins Tire and Auto was an awesome one! It was a little like being at the doctor, the mechanic came out and explained exactly what they did and why. It ended up being a bunch of little things instead of one or two big ones. :bounce: Gaskets, rad cap, bolts and T-Stat. I would definitely recommend them to anyone that needs a general mechanic. Mueller, I would also recommend them for your DL. FYI, they were pretty excited to work on a classic(y) Subaru. ;) If you go there, tell em Japheth and Yusef sent ya!
