Working on magnetic autocross numbers and me and my friend had an unsuccessful night of attempting to make stencils to spray paint our numbers. Does anyone know where we can get some cheap vinyl numbers made or maybe where I can get stencils that are larger than 8". That dont cost 9$ each (Dick Blick).

I think I've seen magnetic 8.5x11 sheets for inkjet printers at Best Buy. You could print out an outline of the numbers you needed, and just cut it out with razor blade? one number per 8.5x11 sheet? I wonder how well they'll stick? :-D

Just print out the numbers on standard paper then cut them out with an exacto knife or whatever. It's not like you'll need to use them more than twice, so you don't need them on cardstock or anything like that. Instead of spraypaint, I traced my numbers onto vinyl.

thats what we were doing all night. The numbers didnt look so good, and they wouldnt lie flush on the magnet so there would prob be some paint getting under them. Also we dont have an inkjet printer, and I dont know how good of quality those would be. It might rain next weekend.

Sounds like you need more tape. :)

If you don't want to pay someone to have a professional looking setup, you can do what I did.

If I remember correctly, I picked up a sqare yard of vinyl from Dick Blick for under $10. Then I printed the numbers and taped them to the vinyl, then traced the pair out with an exacto knife. Tape the vinyl onto the magnet sheet and viola.

I think I did this after my first AARRF day. Getting the shoe polish off my window/trim is something I never want to do again.

I guess my friend/sponsor bought me and my friend numbers. On another note though, getting ANYTHING off windows is easy with glass cleaner (foam types work best, like 3M) and steel wool.
