Want to be a part of a rally team? Driver/owner- Carl Co-Driver- Dave Crew Chief- Dan We are looking for service crew members to join our rally team throughout 2009. www.ziptierally.com The ideal person(s) will have mechanical experience with the WRX/SlowTI platform. The crew working with us will attend the rally’s throughout the season and help us keep the car in good working condition so we can attend and finish each event we enter. The Good, The Bad, The Ugly We’re in it to have fun and be safe. We would expect anyone interested in joining the team to have the same beliefs. This is a chance most people don’t get….to be apart of the rally action and the opportunity to wrench for a team. (Yes, you’ll get a cool team T-Shirt too!!!) However, since we’re a new team we cannot pay you. Of course when there’s an event that requires traveling we will help pay for your hotel, transportation, and lodging. Commitment to the car and team will take considerable time and energy. We will look for commitment throughout the entire year. Look over our rough schedule. If you’re up for if then please PM Carl and myself. Nemadji Trail 1- May 9th- MN Nemadji Trail 2- June 27th- MN Ojibwe Rally- August 28th-29th- MN Rally Colorado- Sept. 19th-20th- CO (Undecided- leaning towards no) LSPR- Oct. 16th- 7th- UP of Michigan (Can’t remember) Nov.- Texas In addition to the rally schedule we will spend time before the season starts with the crew, going over the car in detail to make sure the car is set for the May event and everyone on the team is very farmiliar with the car. Thanks!!! Dave
lmk carl im down for some wrench time since im layed off this would be nice...and if picked should i bring my own box or will there be one provided
i believe i will be stepping back in paintball, so i could probably be game for all the events too if you guys are interested.
In addition to what Dave posted there is a Nemadji Trail 3 in July. Possibly Gravity Park events in WI (weekend commitment). The Texas event is in Paris, TX. The big events such as Ojibwe and LSPR will take multiple days, including weekdays. The other events are essentially weekend or 3 day weekend (fri-sun) events. We will be trying to keep a small service crew to avoid having to caravan more than 2 vehicles (my k2500 can only hold 3 adults comfortably lol). So thorough knowledge of subarus will be important. We will not be swapping engines or transmissions at service but being able to do any suspension piece or brakes without guidance is ideal (as an example) Also, not rounding off every bolt you touch is a requirement lol
damn, if I wasnt getting married and planning a wedding I'd volunteer. Thats awesome you guys are opening this up! it would be SO awesome to learn what goes on and help out.
I'm not necessarily volunteering for the crew team, but I would like to make it out to one of these events as your photographer. I have a Nikon D80 to back me up.
I will volunteer myself for the Odjibwe. I may also be able to make one or two of the weekend only events this summer, but that is more up to my wife and she sleeps as I type this. I would not be able to go out of state, excepting maybe the WI rally. I am very capable, mechanically, when it comes to cars. I cannot think of anything that might happen to your subaru during a rally that I could not fix or replace, baring event ending issues (serious wreck, electrical, or lack of a replacement park for say: a mangled hub and wheel bearing assembly). I do almost all the work own my own cars (no more wiring now that chux is around) and I also have a steady stream of car related work for locals who don't want to pay 65$ an hour. Using your example: If you crew chief points to a corner and says replace the strut, rotor and pads quickly I could do that without help or supervision.
thanks to everyone that PM'd us so far. carl and I will look over the inquiries and get back to everyone...probably with questions, etc.... Keep them coming!!!!
My dad has all the stages for the Ojibwe from last year plotted, I never realized how close they come to the campsite I stay at LOL!! I am pumped for the rally there this year. I think were gonna ride through the forest trails and get sweet spots to see the stages.
sounds like fun. however, you can only "technically" watch at spectator points....so check those before you waste too much time wandering through the woods. Otherwise if you're in the wrong spot someone can kick you out. That would suck if you're miles away from the right spot. And they change some of the roads each year.
He's got a plan, he'd wait it out till after they sweep then stay at the edge of the dirtbike trail. He knows that forest like the back of his hand, he was showing me all kinds of neat stuff tonight. He has also been comparing previous years, they typically run the same runs just different stage names.
i cant wait for Ojibwe and LSPR! should be fun events and im hoping to worl some great spots like i did last year! ill try to get some good pics/vids of you guys!
Well, most dirt bike trails will have marshalls on them. Some marshalls will make you leave. Also, you can be the reason that a stage gets closed. Russ
at the TSD we found the car can still be driven just as fast through the corners as before. exit acceleration is obviously slower and if there are any hills of considerable length or grade the car does get very slow
please dont be dumb and do this..... you very well could be the person to get a stage shut down. if you want to see the cars up close without going to a spectator point, WORK! its is so easy to marshall... the event could always use more workers!
agreed, good way to make a lot of people very angry! be smart, be safe! volunteering is easy and you're guaranteed a better view than a crowded spectator point
Its been done before, it's not like we park our bikes on the fire road and set up chairs there either. Take a deep breath and relax. I am more than certain no one will even notice. After all its not like they shut down the public forest for this, the trails are still very much open to the general public. There is just barricades at one end so you can't cross.
Okay, this isn't the forum to discuss this subject. So please take those inquiries/comments to another thread or PM. ..and chet, although you are correct about them not shutting down the forest. However, if an event worker see you wandering through the woods anywhere on teh side of a stage road they can shut down the stage and/or fine you. I believe the best advise so far is to simply work the event if you want a great spot to watch. /end subject
moar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 Bump, we're looking for one to two more. PLEASE PM SCUBA STEVE & CARL if interested!!!!
I am believe I am fully qualified for the position. Suspension and Brakes = piece of cake. Trans swaps arnt too bad either but they take some time (atleast when I do them solo ) The only thing I am not sure about it my availability. So if you need someone I might be able to help out but making all of the rallys is unlikely.
I'd love to help, unfortunately my only technical skills are behind a camera.... I can only volunteer as the photographer, you don't want me touching your car, if you could rally a bicycle, im your mechanic!!! http://www.fotocommunity.com/pc/pc/mypics/636249 Check out pics if your interested.... Some Rally pics, mostly Landscape though
I would absolutely love to participate in this, but I don't know how much dedication I can give you guys right now. Let me check through my schedules and see what I can do for you. I have my own tools, too.
