So i think i want to ditch the stock speakers. I was looking on Crutchfield and it looks like the dont have 5-1/4'' speakers. So what should i do? Does other size speakers fit? give me some input on what speakers i should get. right now i have an aftermarket Alpine stereo, that is great, but i am going to get an new one, cause i want BT built in. I have an alpine amp and a 12'' sub. So what would you recommend for speakers. I want to get front ones first and then rear ones. Thanks, Taras
That's freaky and bizarre. If you do a speaker lookup on Crutchfield for a 2002 WRX, the only speakers they say they have that will fit are rear ones. They have a whole bunch of speakers in 5-1/4" and 6-1/2" but the notes say *none* of them will fit. That can't be right. Hey, Taras, pick up the phone and call them. It's Crutchfield; they've got something that will work even if the website says otherwise. Stuart.
Ok, Thanks Stuart. Thats what i am going to do. I will just call them when i decide to go ahead and by the speakers. So the size is 6.5'' or 5-1/4 like the website says? What brand should i go with? Thanks a lot.
They've got some Infinity ones at half price right now. Front: http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?g=410&i=1086010CS&tp=106 Rear: http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?g=410&i=1085010CS&tp=106 I don't know if these are any good, but the price sure is nice. Stuart.
They're 6.5" in the front. You should buy Alpine Type-R component speakers and give me $200. Is there anything else I can tell you to do?
Well, crutchfield is correct. You can't buy any speakers and just bolt them in. You need to get yourself a set of speaker spacers to make sure you have enough clearance behind them. The stockers are a thin mount design, so they clear the window when it is rolled all the way down. If you don't get some spacers they speaker magnets will hit the window. And being as you couldn't find a damn thing on the internet by searching..... http://www.iaperformance.com/product_info.php?products_id=1482 Russ
That's my set up and i love it...except for the blown crossover and tweeter on the drivers side...whoops runs on a rockford p325.2 amp.
yeah, I just blew my woofer in the drivers door. Now I too get to buy new speakers. Just look for something with a low monting depth and get the spacers.
i just cut rings outta 3/4 inch MDF and mounted the woofers to em...clears the windows, wires and fits inside the door card
^ thats what i did w/ my 6.5"s but they dont fit behind the door cards. I had to do some chopping.... i mean trimming to make them fit.
mine fit with no other modification (07MY), just had to take the stryofoam piece out of the card to get the crossover in.
There different thicknesses. Why don't you make them out of MDF, there are a few write ups on them floating around. I'll look for a lil bit for one.
crutchfield is good for research. I would not pay their prices. How about .. oh i donno, going to the store and buying some? That's what I do. I use crutchfield to find out what fits, and then go to, say Best Buy (or whatever) and buy them. Whether they go in right away or not is a different story, but it beats waiting around for stuff to show up. While you can't make ALL OF THEM fit in the impreza, it is possible to "ghetto rig" some up so they do fit.
Retail store prices are way more that what crutchfield charges, thats for sure. my alpine was 220 at bestbuy and thats without tax and installation. I got it with all the hardware to install for 169 at crutchfield.
How can you possibly complain about Crutchfield's prices and then suggest going to Big Buy ? One suspects that there's an ironic smiley missing from your post. I bought my HD radio from Crutchfield last year. Their price was the best I could find, and they included the harness adapter. The package arrived in 3 days, which is perfectly acceptable to me. I'm all for supporting the local brick and mortar places (I would prefer to pay local sales tax instead of shipping fees), but they so rarely carry the products I actually want to buy these days. I'm not sure if that's their fault or mine. I suspect it's a mix of both. Stuart.
I got my front speakers replaced under warranty (when I still had it). Should last a little while yet.
Taras, if your car has the factory premium upgrade speakers...the spacer rings are already in there. You just have to take them off the old speakers and swap them over.
wow, things have changed then since I have HAD to buy audio equipment. It has been a couple of years. and I have never had a problem with best buy prices ... maybe I'm just crazy.
how would i know if i have a premium system? The stock stereo was 6 cd double din one and i think i have tweeters in where the handle are.
