eBay user team_bushido7 hijacked my text and images from a posting I made to sell my wheels. The following is text I would like to have added to my OP but it is closed so I'm posting this in the scammer section. These wheels are SOLD despite any other listing, posting, or offer you may see out on this forum or any other online sources including eBay or Craigslist. The following is an example of a fraudulent eBay listing using my text and images from my original post. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160356693746&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT Again, these wheels are sold. Be careful of scams. Original Post Below. http://mnsubaru.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34005
Unfortunately, ebay doesn't care. As of right now, they (ebay) is going to start the great picture heist of 2009. There is a setting that you can opt out of the will no longer allow ebay to steal your pictures and let other use them for their own classified adds. And ebay's listing. http://pages.ebay.com/sell/July2009Update/faq/index.html#2-5 So really, if he is not trying to sell YOUR rims and is just using YOUR pictures, you can bag ebay about that. Russ
Ugh. Thanks, eBay! Thanks for making it easier for scammers to defraud people! Thanks for bringing this to our attention, Russ.
One of the Nikon sites I am on has a lot of people who get pissed when their picture rights get trampled on. Someone there found it listed on another site and it has been passing around ever since. If you are one of those people who don't care (or steal others work), its not a big deal, but for the people who actually care about copyrights and how their personal work gets displayed on the internetz without their permission, this is a HUGE can of worms. And of course, everyone has opted in (by default), and ebay has not told anyone to opt out. I wish I would have found out sooner. Russ
Well, it says that the item is located in Mpls so I'm wondering if the person you sold it to is putting it on ebay?
It's a possibility, but the cat I sold 'em to is out of state. However, the fact that the eBay item is being sold from Minneapolis is very odd. I'd like to know what is going on, but I don't. So all I can do is say that the items I sold are sold to someone out of state and inform others that my images and text has been hijacked. I'm not sure what the truth of the eBay item they are selling is but soon after I contacted eBay and got no where with them (what did I expect?) I sent a message to the seller. And sure as sh1t the seller ended the sale of the item. Hmm... Do you think he was scammin'? (Note Sarcasam.)
So to get back on point, did this guy scam YOU, or just steal your images?? Is this user a member on our site?? I just want to clear up what is the real problem here and if anyone needs to get involved. Russ
Wait, I don't follow the OP. This guy is selling a set of wheels, but using your picture. That doesn't mean he does not have a set of those wheels to sell. Yes, it sucks that he is using your picture to sell his wheels, but thats not a scam, it's simply just using your pics. Put your screen name in there next time and call it a lesson learned.
still the person who is selling an item should put up pictures of the actual item for sale not someone elses. FS: What shows up at your door
Right, back to the point. Thank you Russ. To clear it up... No one needs to get involved. The OP was a warning to others out there that this might happen to them. Take chad1.5litertoaster's advice. ...Amen brother. You're right, lesson learned. Now I know. And from this post a constructive and good discussion was created that allowed Russ to inform us about the Catalog of Online Images eBay Policy which I have opted out of since learning about. Thanks again Russ!
