For those of you who've never read the book "Band of Brothers" or watched the excellent HBO series of the same name, Maj. Dick Winters died on January 2nd. The man was a true hero in every sense of the word, both during and after the war.

The CNN story references it, but during the drop into Normandy for D-Day the man lost the bag holding his weapons during the parachute drop but had enough wits about him to still find weapons and get his men together and complete their mission. He went on to do much, much more.

"Uncommon valor was a common virtue" fits the man perfectly.

RIP Maj. Winters, you'll be sorely missed.
