Has any one had any succcess getting out of a speeding ticket by challanging equiptment registration or calibration of radar equiptment? anyone successfully challange a ticket ever? just let me know... I could use any help I can get.:ugh: the officer said he "clocked me at 74mph in a 60" :eek4:mph zone, but I know for a fact I was not going that fast.
Well Putz, you probably won't have any success attempting to question the equipment. In fact, that is more than likely only going to piss off the judge or hearing officer. That IS weaseling for sure. Better off calling your district court to get an appointment with a hearing officer. These are private meetings so you can attempt to use your good driving record to minimize the cost of the fine OR (depending on location of ticket) ask to pay for the ticket and a bit more to have this off your record in one year. pay to play....
its called prohbation. basically you have to pay more for for the ticket since they are offering you the chance to have it removed from you record in one year (6mo in some places) if you do not get any more moving violations in that time period.
I just did that.... 169 south through hopkins. Nailed doing 72 in a 55. paid the fine plus 50 bucks or so and had it put on probation for one year. it's not on your record throughout the year and then it will totally disappear on the anniversary date of the ticket....provided I don't get busted again. I did the same thing about 4 years ago....worked just fine
while i'm sure there's some story about this happening somewhere... i wouldn't count on it. in minnesota, or at least the metro area here... the officer gets a subpoena, and has to show up, and if they don't it would be 'contempt of court'. besides in most places they either get paid overtime, or get time off of their regular hours to go to court. it's all part of the job.
yes, it basically amounts to a payoff to the county so they don't tell the insurance company. Most other states have traffic school or some other option to keep it off your record, MN doesn't have anything like that, so it is only fair they offer something. ^ true dat. keep in mind that the hearing officer has alot of power when deciding fines. I have heard of it before where they offer the probation at the higher price and through some careful negotiations the person paid like half of it.

i just went to court (trial) for one. it was 64 in a 50. right before i talked to the city attorrney and asked to plea it down to 59. he said well how about we just make it 58 and be done with it. :biggrin:

why do people care so much about searching? If we just searched for previous discussed topics eventually there would be no forum, because you could just search for your answer. WELL i HAD SEARCHED.... now, and found that no one has answerd my question as to " how should on succesfully challange a speeding ticket". I've read about people bending over and paying more than the ticket amount, and people just paying the ticket, and I've read alot of sloppy answers that sound like Bobby Bouchet from "The Water Boy" quoting his mother somthing like "Well my momma say if the coppy do no show then you got no ticket to pay" or classics like "my friend had ____ happen ...." well, I guess I was hoping for an answer from some one who has firsthand experiance with challanging a ticket. I mean come on guys, not all us are window lickers.... some ones gotta know.
That is a good answer:biggrin:, but hindsight is 20/20 right? well I did speed, and it wasn't to the extent they say I had, should I just resign to the fact that I will be paying a higher fine than I should? ... Or is there some one here who can say they had done this, or that.....and tell me how to beat the ticket.
Unfortunately, I have plenty of experience on this issue. The best advice is go to court and be prepared to state you don't feel you were going that fast. What you're really doing is hoping that the officer doesn't show up. That said, if the officer shows up, you're screwed and you will not get out of the ticket. I have been successful about half the time because the officer didn't show. In some cases the prosecution will ask for a continuance if the officer doesn't show. At that point inform the judge that you made it to court at the scheduled time and deserve to have your case heard. The judge will then dismiss for lack of prosecution. It is important to recognize the officer by sight so when the prosecuting attorney offers a deal, if the officer is there, take the deal. If not, tell the attorney you don't want it on your record and will wait to see if the officer shows up. That's what has worked for me. If the ticket was in hennepin county, you will go before a hearing officer first and that is where you can negotiate to pay a fine in exchange for a one year suspended conviction. If you go a year without a same or similar offense, it doesn't go on your record. I highly recommend you do this if you can. As far as I am aware, hennepin county is the only metro county that does this. It is primarily to keep the courts open for more severe crimes. Always remember, this advice is worth exactly what you paid for it. But it is also exactly what I have done in the past.

You need to chill out man. If you look at the Forums page, you will find that there are multiple areas to look through. My suggestion to you, if your life revolves around cars, cars, and cars...don't look at off-topic(weather<<not cars), or events(paintball<<not cars), or members for sale(bike for sale<<not cars)...I think you get the picture. This forum is a community that has a common interest in the automobiles we all drive, but we all have other likes and passions also. It sounds like you don't want to see pictures of cars either.:dunno: Maybe you just had a bad day and one comment about 'searching' set you off. But Matt(mlgez) is one of the moderators of this forum. And I'm pretty sure that if he wants to tell members to use the search button, he can.
