Anyone gots a welder and the experience to weld a bung onto my downpipe?

I know there are a couple exhaust shops around here (St. Paul) that'll do it, but I just want to ensure my nice parts are in good hands!

Out of curiosity, where are you going to put the bung?
I know some manufacturers put it at the bellmouth, but most of the wideband install instructions suggest to put the sensor at least 18" (or something like that) after the turbo, for heat reasons.

Or is the plumbing to the turbo on subarus long enough that the exhaust is cooled enough to allow a reliable install in the bell mouth.

Well, it'll go in the later half of the DP. Maybe around 18-24" from the turbo. Honestly, it depends on where the welder can reach with the DP installed on the car, as I'd rather not deal with taking it off.

I welded mine right in the bellmouth after the turbo. Subaru put a factory 02 there in the T-leg and I had my Tuna WB02 installed there on my WRX. The further away you get from the front of the exhaust, the more lag you'll have between the revs and the 02 reading. Not a ton since the speed of the exhaust is flowing quite fast, but obviously the lower the better.

My cobb downpipe has the bung right in the bellmouth. It came like that from the factory so i plan on mounting my aem wideband sensor in there

Yeah, that's common. I have, however, heard of numerous burnt out O2 sensors in that position.

Plus, I'd like to get it welded on the DP without removing it from the car, and there is a lot more room on the bottom half. :)

Do you just want it welded with a standard welder, or did you want to tig weld it with stainless so it won't rust out before your pipe?

You can use stainless with a MIG too, that's what I did for my car's stuff.

I was told, it best place to put the bung is either at 10 or 2 o'clock and a few inches after the turbo

I'm going to guess the bellmouth position is intended to have the sensor in for tuning sessions only, and not permanantly installed.

i burnt out 2 wideband sensors that were 10 inches back from the turbo in the downpipe. i then moved it to the stock sensor location in the downpipe and it worked fine.

Bingo. If you install a perm. mount at that location, you better have some sort of heatsink or else you will kill the sensor.

Innovate reccomends a location of at least 12" past the turbo with the tip of the sensor pointing in a downward position (to keep from moisture collecting and then cracking the ceramic element at startup).
