Cast Aluminum is going to very difficult to weld effectively. You're going to have to find someone with a lot of experience and a nice powerful welder.

Welding cast aluminum is more about setting up the welder properly than power itself. A Syncrowave 200 can weld some decent cast aluminum. Balance control makes or breaks it.

It not just welding itself the arm is currently supported by a brace I want to secure it by welding around the cracked part.

I will be removing it from the car next week and I think I found a replacement carrier so I might not need to weld it anymore. Hopefully the deal comes through. Thanks for all replies.

my teacher just welded a cast aluminum transmission... it takes a special rod and lots of preparation work before welding to get all the impurities out... I would say at a minimum you would have 2-3hrs of labor time to have it done right... it would need to be off the car too... the real issue with cast aluminum is you dont know the mix that was used.. it is handfuls of stuff thrown in till they get the mix close enough.... being a late model car it may be a lot better mix of stuff then older cast material...

I have a TiG here and would be willing to think about it.. but as has been stated... it may be better for a welder that has lots of experience... expect to drop it and leave it for a few days...

    ###EDIT
just saw your post above... well if you do get another one drop the old one too me and I will try to weld it and see.. then you'd have a spare
