Last night on my way home the drives side front wheel bearing starts making noise in my Mazda 626. Well it's pressed in and I dont have a press so I have to drop that off tonight.
So I dig the Subaru XT out of the barn and drive that in today. Not much for heat because it has a 160 stat in. No big deal I can handle it for a couple days. Well I get on 35 going south from hwy10 and my radio turns off, blower turns off and dash lights start to dim along with head lights. It's 5:30am and I'm ticked. It made it from 694 down 35, down 280 and into the parking lot here. Stayed running until I turned it off. Now it doesn't even click.

Looks like my battery must have taken a dump. Guess that since it stayed running on the altenator as long as it did. Guess I better find a place that sells batteries close by.

Does anyone know if the FireStone where everyone meets has good deals on batteries?
Otherwise O'Rilleys or Sears I guess is close.

Sounds like the alternator to me. Battery might be toast too though.

Correct, it was the Alternator. I took the bosses car and went home and got one from the parts bin. :)

Front wheelbearing on Mazda wouldnt be a problem if I had a press

If you need one I'm down in Rockford, a bit far. You might be better finding a local place and slip the guy a 20...

I had 3 at home, down to 2 now but thanks for the offer. :)

Dropped the Mazda off to get wheel bearing fixed and tranny flushed since it's there.

    It's only money right????

Most of the time if see your alt starting to take a dump you can hit it with a hammer and limp it home, my boss did this to his jeep for 6 months, lol.

Never heard of that with an Alt. a starter yeah, but not an Alt. I will have to remember to try that one. I am always looking for a reason to hit a car with a hammer. I just don't find enough reasons!

Yeah, done that with a starter. This made a loud click and then you could see with the lights, heater and radio on that it was dead. No light came on in the dash thou which is strange. I'm still driving it so I guess the battery is ok. Mazda should be done today or tomorrow I hope so I can get the XT back into the barn for the winter. lol
