Off my 05 STI. First time pulling off filter.

I hate for this to be my first post but I couldn't believe what I saw...

Any suggestions at what I do to check for motor damage?

someone else did. Hence the horrification. But I guess I'm also an idiot for assuming that someone wouldn't do that to an air filter and not pulling it out before I bought the car...?

This also happened to an old vehicle of mine. Check the turbo inlet pipe for the carnage if anything is stuck in there.

I did. MAF sensor looked fine. No scrapes in the pipe. No black top in the fenderwell.. Anyone think there is a hole underneath the cap like this? My guess would be no.

i remember buying an ebay intake for my integra once (to try and customize for use with a stock airbox) and the filter that came with it was just like that, except it atleast had a metal mesh over the end of it haha.

It's going into RS this week (new clutch) and I'm debating whether to have them change the plugs and do a comp test at the same time. Anyone else have any suggestions as to what else to look for?

If that used to have the metal end cap, I don't see how that piece itself could cause damage.

The only thing is other bits tearing up the compressor wheel. Even if it has a little damage, as long as it still functions, let it rock until you can/want to get something else.

Motor damage is the least of your worries. You turbo will be spinning at over 40k rpm at full boost, before anything makes it to the motor, it has to make it through the spinning turbo AND intercooler core.
