I figured I'd post this up just in case there's any members looking for a job. We're hiring: 2 CNC machinists (grinding experience prefered). 1 inspector 1 manufacturing engineer We're a precision grind shop that makes can tooling. Most of our tolerances are ± .0001", but can be as nuts as +.00000/-.00005." But it's a pretty fun place to work and has very knowledgable people that are great trainers. The company is Sandvik Hard Materials. Go to www.sandvik.com/career and click on all jobs. I'm not sure if these are posted yet, but they would be under Sandvik Hard Materials USA. There's a couple openings in our michigan plant, but you probably don't want to work there.
those are some crazy tolerances for tools for making cans! good luck finding people, last i heard machinists were in heavy demand.
Yeah, it's crazy stupid. When you only have .00005" to work with and the freaking laser we use to measure size only repeats within .00001-2" it can be a total crapshoot. You can literally hold on to the part for 2 minutes and it'll grow by .0001-2"!!
I used to work at a place that made precision measuring devices. Ultra-precise machining is a weird business. I used to visit a shop called Precision Instruments in Hopkins that makes hard disk test spindles for Seagate amongst other things. They used our sensors to measure vibration of a spinning spindle. One of the limiting factors to how dense you can make data on a hard disk platter is how much your spindle vibrates as it spins. We made software and sensors for measuring how a machine tool moves around as it warms up.
Precision Instruments or Profesional Instruments?? I worked at Profesional Instruments right out of college assembling air bearings. Stupid crazy tolerances (.00001" run-out once assembled). And that shop was MAD ghetto, leaky roof with an entire gutter system in the shop
You know, we're growing so much right now, it may not be a bad idea to do that. I'll heckle my boss and see if he's at all interested.
hey Elliot, just out of curiousity..I noticed they have marketing and sales! Are they in need of any in that position!?! I think I will be better in that field...
Professional Instruments. We always called it "P.I." so I have trouble remembering what it stands for.
What are the qualifications for these positions??? What is the base pay? Any additional information would be great. Thanks.
