So I was at MC'Ds on University with alot of other people and a Cop rolls up and starts talking on his microphone. He said "I didn't think you guys would get this far, atleast go 100 yards. It's time to go home everyone. Goto Minneapolis you race as much as you want there, head west on 94. I see alot of imports, next time buy an American Car." What's your opinion to this statement?
Ahh..yea, more than a little! See tux, that's why you have to stick with the Subie guys. We don't get hassled by the fuzz, just Mexicans!
Looks like some cop has issues. Shouldn't he be doing something like getting criminals or *cough* his job rather than heckling guys who drive imports? Serious waste of time...
I dont see an issue with this.. look at the crowd he was talking too.... I agree instead of hondas they should buy american... that way its crap that was built in the USA not just crap... ha ha ha
As the person who gets this guy's tickets after he writes them, I'd like his car (and badge) number. "Go race in Minneapolis" is completely out of line, and his conduct is unprofessional. Telling you simply to disperse would be the proper action, and given that you probably don't have permission to be in that lot, proper.
I don't feel it would be a proper action since they didn't do anything but pull into a McDonalds, but I would definitely prefer that rather than a short ramble about going to Minneapolis and how I should have bought an American car. Think if a bunch of us got that from a cop at one of our meets because we pulled into Chipotle. Just my two cents.
If they were customers at the McDonalds, I would expect giving a call to the store owner would get a complaint to the SPPD that actually mattered.
Yes, loitering in a a parking lot of a business that is open is definitely a no-no. With permission is acceptable, but they will (most likely) NOT give you permission when they are trying to serve their customers parking needs. The cop, was in fact out of line though. While hanging in the Firestone lot last night, an officer pulled through around 10:40pm. I thought he was going to tell us to go home, but he just said "are you guys street racing tonight?" My/our reply "No sir, that's why we park em." He smiled and said to have a good night and be safe! Some cops are nice, some are jerks. Just like with everything else. Sometimes the guy at McD's is a jerk when taking my order, sometimes they're polite. This is the world we live in.
Actually just about all of us were eating Mc'Ds hahaha so we used their parking lot for a break. The other guys IDK.
Yep. And being polite back, regardless of what they say and how they act works very well. Being rude (note that I'm not saying OP was, just for future reference), makes every situation worse. Lets say I cut you off, and you honk and give me the finger. That in itself could bring a road rage incident. However, if i respond with a finge rof my own or a brake check, thats even more likely to bring the situation to a head. If I make some indication that i realize I'm an *******, that disarms the whole situation. And remember that this doesn't even require that you be at fault. If they think you are at fault and you applogize, it disarms the whole situation. (The above does not apply if you're suspected of a crime, then shuttup and call a lawyer It doesn't matter if you're right if you're going to jail tonight.
haha i was reading and waiting to hear this! so many people let police have their way in situations because they admit to fault. you can be cooperative and not admit to anything at the same time
Getting a nice officer is a relief, maybe they remember what it was like cruisin' down main street in their home town, back in the day, or just chillin while eating in a parking lot.
"Nazis. I hate these guys." Oh wait, wrong movie. "She's fast enough for you, [cop] man." Oops, still the wrong movie. But I think I mighta gone home, too. That way I wouldn't be around when all the people the cop pissed off did something stupid.
One time a few of us got 'stopped' over on Spring street off of Industrial. We had rolled back there to hang out. We were parked, and a few of us had the engines off. While it is a normal place for the street racer kids to go and race, we were parked, engines off. About 5 police cars rolled up, told us to get in our cars. Next thing you know, this sweaty jackass cop starts screaming at us. Some highlights of this pep-talk: To AWDImprezaL : "You're from Monticello? Why don't you go back to your trailerpark and die." To another driver: "Why don't you go back to your hometown and get in a car accident and die" To me: <officer> Let me see your identification <readymix> (hands officer military ID card) Here ya go. <officer> And just what would your officer in charge say if he knew what you were doing out here? <readymix> I don't know, I don't think he'd care. What are you going to tell him, that I was parked in a parkinglot? <officer> (hands identification back) Don't come back here again. <readymix> sure Along with numerous other "well wishings" that night from teh group of blowhard cops. We still joke about it because it was such a joke. And I really wish he would have 'called my supervisor' and told them I was 'parking in a parking lot.' I can imagine what that would have sounded like. "Jason, I got a call from the St. Paul Police" me: Yeah, I figured as much "He said you were parked in a parking lot" me: Yup, that's right. "and I'm supposed to be mad at you, I guess?" me: Yup, as mad as you are at anyone else that uses a parking lot to park their car. "carry on."
tried to post this once, then the stupid site crashed (yet again ) Jason's post reminded me alot of an incident i had on 62. I was pulled over after turning onto 62 by one of Eden Prairie's many fine, bored police officers. "May I see your license and proof of insurance please?" "No problem officer, but may I ask why I was pulled over?" "I pulled you over for indecent acceleration on that turn without due care." "Excuse me, but officer, this car weighs over four thousand pounds, has a check engine light on, and from the factory goes zero to sixty in over seven seconds. I dont see who that would be unreasonable or indecent." he handed me back my stuff, said "Have a good day.", walked back to the squad car and drove past.
