I just picked up a Kodak c533 5mp at best buy Friday ($125), easy to use and it takes nice shots.

Heres a F**KED up pic I took of my friend Andy.

+1 for Canon. My wife has a Canon SD100 and I have a FujiFilm e510, her canon takes better pictures in almost all situations. The reason I bought my fujifilm is because it has a wider angle lens, 28mm equiv.

Check out http://www.dpreview.com/, they have a lot of good reviews and a buying guide that is helpful.

My previous camera was a canon SD200, it was great PERFECT size, easy to use. however it met an untimely demise, so thats why i am asking around.

do basically all of the small cameras come with a 3x optical? i also forgot to add that i would prefer that the camera uses SD cards, since i already have a couple of these.

I've had 2 Cannon Digital cameras and a Kodak...both brands are good quality cameras. I'd recommend the Cannon over the Kodak though in terms of price.

when i was looking at them 3x optical seemed to be pretty standard. most Canons use SD cards

Otherwise, if you are going to go SLR, I'd recommend anything Nikon. I also used to sell cameras, and they are the most reliable and durable cameras I've ever owned. I had an N8008 and an N80...and I'm seriously considering picking up a D100 if I can get the funds to do so.

i dont wanna make the leap to SLR. it would be sweet if i could, but it just isnt practical for me to do that. cuase i would never lug a SLR with me. i like how with the compact i can have it in my pocket and barely notice it. but eventually i will get one, cuase it would be so sweet to bring it up to the BWCA.

how is the picture quality on the SD630? i looked at one a while ago and the picture looked fuzzy, maybe it was just because of the high resoloution and the small lcd.

I have had 1 olympus and 3 cannons. I love my canons. I have the rebel XT right now, works great, but that is an SLR which you did not want to go to. I also have a small olympus which works great for when I need something that will fit in my pocket.

I think I'm going to go with the Nikon P3. It seems they have the largest lens opening. Should be good in low light. Also the P3 has a Vibration Reduction lens and WIFI image transfers. It goes for around $300 on eBay. The only thing I don't like is none of the new camera's have a view finder. The Canon SD630 is my second choice. I had the coolpix 4200 - loved it. My GF has the Nikon D50 SLR. Takes awesome picture. She also has a Nikon N80 film camera. Both bodies use the same lenses.

Sony cams are great, but they don't use SD cards. SLR is great, that's what I have. Cannons are great tho.

well i am definately liking the sd630/sd600. i am curouis about one thing. its kind of a minor detail. but does anyone know if these cameras pick up IR light? I have thought about doing some IR night shots and the camera needs to be able to comprehend the IR spectrum.

anyone know if these cameras can do it (my sd200 could) the easy way to test it is to use a TV remote. hold down a button and look through the camera at the little LED opn the end of te remote. if the led lights up green/whitish through the camera then it can work with IR. anyone tried this before?
