i am looking into finding an ECU for my new project. i wanna use a AP, but AP are year specific. i am just wondering what changed in the ECUs? are there notable differences?

same question for the intake manifolds, any changes throught he years?

From what I know, intake manifolds didn't change until 06.

When you need to be that specific on the year because of the AP...I'd ask Brian from BP I think he would know the difference between the years, if any. From what I know you could swap ECUs from 02-05...I've put 02 WRX ECU in my 04 and everything ran fine...It was in for about a week or so.

There are alot of internal ecu changes that happened in the 04-05 ecu's. I will fire up my protuner and do some comparisons to see what is different. I know ther eis alot of crossover changes, and I think a few maps changes. I will post up what I find.

Yup, you can run an older ecu on a newer WRX, but not vice-versa. Trying to run an '04 ecu in an '02 car will result in a cel due to the ecu looking for extra sensors that the '02 car doesn't have.

As far as changes to the ecu, there are a number of different revisions both in the actual circuit boards to the firmware that runs them (ie, different portions of the map are at different memory locations).

Well, after looking at my protuner software, there are alot more options for the 02-03 wrx then for the 04-05. The 02-03 seems to be almost the same (uses the same ap), but the base timing maps are a bit different. Here are a couple of screen short of the options. i couldn't get them all in on the screen, but the 02-03 is missing a bunch of boost tables.
