So Katie and I are driving to Chicago next Wednesday for a trip. Other than the obvious (P&L) what are some things to do there? I want to check out the Pier, go on a canal ride and some other scenic things. Anyone been or have suggestions? Thanks Chet
Six Flags Great America in Gurnee...Iron Wolf-FTW And, becuz u gangsta, check out Cabrini on the Southside y0! ikid.
You rattled off some of the more touristy stuff. I highly recommend sitting in the right field bleachers at Cubs game if they're in town, bar hopping on Lincoln Ave, cruising Boys Town for the people watching (don't worry, you're not "their" type Chet), grabbing dinner somewhere outdoors in the Gold Coast area, etc. There's so much to do there that it can't be covered in one weekend.
Cabrini was actually on the near NW side - used to ride by it every day on the L. It is now a shopping mall and $$$ condos. Assimilation and gentrification at work.
Sears Tower Chicago Museum of Science and Industry (especially the transportation and U-505 exhibit) Navy Pier Lakeshore Drive Hancock Tower Gold Coast Bentley on Michigan Ave (right by the Old Water Tower, which is also cool) Shedd Aquarium Any dark alley Those are the ones right off the top of my head
Good ideas save the Sears and Hancock bldgs. It is a full body cavity search to get in there now and the viewing areas are far more restricted. Navy Pier tends to be like the State Fair, only with water on 3 sides. Walking around Bucktown and Ukranian Village is fun too.
But the cavity search was my favorite part! They weren't thrilled when I requested the "No Gloves" option though...
Was thinking about AMS, I here there is also a Supra shop in the area. I just don't think the old lady would approve of me going from shop to shop on are vacation ...
GO TO MIRACLE MILE AND SHOP!!!!!!! or you could go the the various side streets and find kick ass ****ing food you could also go to the street the cubs stadium is on (i forget what its called) check out the shops there and bars which are pretty kick ass ah man..there it goes again... damn ex
^Really we thought the Duluth Aquarium was neat, we've been twice ... not that it's the greatest around it's just fun to go.
I cant believe you didnt just ask the guy that lives here! theres tons of stuff, navy pier, michigan ave (shopping) ,burton flagship store, LOADS of concerts, I think theres also a few street festivals going on. North Beach is awesome, the zoo (its free) TONS of cool bars to check out. wrigley is fun, I have a buddy that lives next to wrigley, so if yer going to see a game, BBQ before hand and the cubby bear afterwards. How long are you staying? I'd love to check out some things that are going on in our local paper, and give suggestions and possibly show ya around a bit. AMS, and DS1 will let you check out their shops, Top Setup will show you around too (mostly hondas though) Also, im sure there will be some meet of some sorts going on if you want to get some info on those as well. anyway, I'll pm you my number, and give ya the lowdown. Its my last chance to show/give people suggestions on what to do before I move up MN.
I'm leaving at the AC of dawn Wednesday and coming home afternoon on Sunday. By all means we should grab a beer at least. Sadly I wont be driving the Subie it will be parked as were driving Katie's Highlander ... room for crap, free gas, not putting miles on the Subie and most importantly WAAAAYYYY more comfortable ride.
Going down there thursday to see the Allman bros./Rat Dog. Venue is real close to Shedd aquarium, so if I arrive early enough, will be checking that out...
