I am thinking about polishing a few things under the hood of the miata to make it at least a bit better looking. I am planning on polishing the outside of the intake manifold and the valve cover. What kind of attachment would be best for that kind of job. I did use one to do the rims on it but i went through five attachments on one wheel and it is just not right. What do you guys at GrimmSpeed and Chimera use to polish intakes and other pipes?

i am pretty bad with names here. So pictures of attachments or whatever tools would be best for the job would help the most.

i like to use an air disk sander with a scotchbrite wheel i takes a while if its dull to begin with but if you start with coarse stuff and work your way to fine grit you can really make it shine.

To polish aluminum you need a wheel made of cloth. There are polishing attachments, see this image. Keep in mind that the surface needs to be smooth or you'll just chew through the polishing wheels.

    There. Or here. Sometimes both.
    Matt D. is correct.

Depending on the surface, you will have to work your way up. The surface has to already be smooth before you can use a cloth wheel and rouge.

Rubber polishing tips work as well in the stage before the cloth wheel. Before that if the surface is rough or corroded, use fine grit sandpaper. 800/1000/1500/2000 in stages and keep it lubricated.

Also, when using the cloth wheel, be liberal with the rouge. It's not the wheel that's doing the polishing, it's the compound.
