Might sound silly but hey its a discussion...

Ok for those of you the rally/auto X drivers what do u use?
I know the shoe doesn't make u a better driver but the comfortability.
For example i like wearing my ALL STAR coverse to get a better play around the peddles. But im looking to step it up to

I was gonna say the Doc Martens, but I have a bit of a problem wearing those with shorts. I'm sure as the pants get filtered into my wardrobe, I'll start wearing the Docs instead.

I find the shoes to be comfortable, stylish, and trendy, and the Handerpants are extremely supportive on those long drives.

I've heard some people say that wrestling shoes make a good cheap driving shoe. They're really pretty light and I'm sure they'd provide great feel for driving. Not sure if there are any requirements for fireproof materials and the like, but it's worth looking into...

    Pumas, several species

I love my Pumas to death! They make such a difference in my driving ability or confidence that I keep a pair in my car for when I'm in boots or other dress shoes. A quick swap when I get in the car and my commute becomes a qualifying lap. Never underestimate the ability of a thin rubber sole and a spherical heel cup to transfer pedal feel to driver.

I get them cheap from the Albertville Outlets. Having several pairs allows me to diminish some of the wear and tear; get more mileage. Plus my feet like the variety of foot beds.

(I recall air pilot shoes being great as well, designed for pedal feel too)

Glad I'm not the only one:laugh:

I have 4 pairs of speed cats/future cats kicking around between the cars and the garage.

The thin soles are nice for feel but kinda suck for autox/rallyx when you're working the course and need to run around and stand for hours on end, so I usually bring an extra pair of shoes/socks to driving events.

Never felt comfortable wearing gloves for anything... driving, golf, baseball, working on cars...

Walmart velcro shoes are all around the best. I used to wear them for dodge ball in college. Narrow, low weight, and at a price that cannot be beaten $12. Also chicks dig a man in velcro.

I picked up a pair of shoes that look like converse at H&M for $10 and they have just about the thinnest sole of any shoe I have ever worn, including wrestling shoes. Great feel of even the texture of asphalt through them.

Well, it depends a bit on the car.
I have a pair of Puma SpeedCats, and love them as a driving shoe, as thats what they were designed for. The thin sole and rolled heel are so nice for driving.

But... There is a down side.
the speed cats are too narrow for me to properly heel toe downshift, so i don't wear them in the subaru, even when autocrossing. With all the walking i have to do on an event day, and the aformentioned heel toe issues, i just wear my year old Nike ACGs.

I usually buy a set in the fall after the season ends, wear them through the winter, and wear down the tread, then they're usually worn down enough to give me the feed back i like in the pedal. after the season, i've basically worn them smooth. i keep that set around for spring if the new ones aren't worn down enough.

But i have diriven a bunch of other cars where the pedals are so close together i find myself hitting both pedals in a fast manuver. Off the top of my head, miatas and E36 BMWs.

alot of my friends use Piloti driving shoes, and swear by them. i may try a set next year. but usually driving shoe vs walking shoe have opposite jobs, so i'll probably have to bring both pairs to events.

As for gloves? nope, don't wear 'em perfer the feel of the wheel. git a little feed back as it slides under my palm that i don't get with gloves on. Even in the winter, i hate to wear heavy gloves. i love the thin little leather driving gloves for cold weather.

Vans are the bomb but I switched to dvs, they last better on aggresive bike pedals. I pretty much hate all of my shoes for driving but that's probably since size 13 shoes do not fit under the dash very well.

I love my puma speed cats... but they do suck for walking around in all day on pavement... Idk how good they are in subarus (havent done my 5spd swap yet) but worked amazing in the hondas

Hehehahaha! But, seriously, driving shoes? I get it. Really, I do. But I think the Pumas are about as far as I would go when it came to buying shoes for driving. Thin sole, rolled heel. Good enough, yeah? Maybe I'm being cynical, but I think that money would be better spent on driving school, yeah?

    Ding Ding Ding!
    We have a winner.
You can do alot to a car to make it handle better, but if the driver can't properly use it, your not getting the most from the parts.

I've thrown some incredible drivers in my car over the past couple seasons autocrossing, and I'm just ****ing stunned at how much faster than me they can go, and execute with such precision.
