so my car is dead at the moment and need another car until i figure out what to do with her.
not a ton compares to a wrx.
what else do you guys recommend/ drive as well?
im liking an A3 because of the space (hockey gear) and comfort of it.
i also would like to know if there are any real reasons i should shy away from an audi.
    thanks

just depends on how long the wrx will be out of commish and how much your looking to spend really. There are alot of options out there that will get the job done

I would be scared of an Audi with over 100k and no warranty.
That said, how much do you want for your wrx with dead motor? Haha

My 6 cylinder makes 1250 lb/ft of torque.
Go the luxobarge route like I did and find a good condition 2010+ SHO.

Fast, quiet and enough trunk space to fit an A3 as a backup vehicle.

    I drive my parents insane.

Whatever you end up getting, you should definitely consider something equally blow-uppy as your currently blown up car. How about a maserati biturbo or a delorean?

Or get a cheap 90s subaru, toyota, honda, etc... at the bottom of its depreciation curve that you can potentially drive for a year and resell for the same price you bought it for.

i ended up buying an 06 a3.112,000 6 speed 8,000 with taxes included.
its always been a car i wanted, and i figured id buy it and keep it for a bit and sell it again before i break it (because it is not my wrx on konis).
i can drive it and check it off my list of things to drive, while i try and figure out what to do with my wrx. (suggestions are welcome)
i do love the hatch so far

I should have chimed in earlier...

Vw/audis come broken from the factory...as a guy who fixes them, I get the comfort driveability of them...just keep your wallet handy. I vw's with 1000 miles over warranty broken as hell all day... its like a kia with a fancy european price...I'd rather drive a kia, it WILL last longer.

Sorry for being debbie downer, but euro cars are sooo damn pricey, unreliable, and cost soooo much to fix.

^ I was shopping for a b7 Audi A4 for the lady few years back but ended up getting an 08 G35X. Read too many horror stories online on the sludge problems and other electronic issues. Had zero issues with the G so far great value for a luxury car IMO.

Alright...now I feel like that guy. I was not intending to rip on you or any other eurosport owners. All cars require maintenance and repair at some point, so my statement wasn't fair at all.

For that I apologize. In fact, if I can give the car a once over for you, let me know.

I guess my brain is wired like an Asiatic engineer more than a European engineer. I don't personally see too many eauropean cars with over 200k, mostly just the diesels, and surprisingly a few of the olderish Saabs.

Asian cars I see with 200k all the time (think Toyota, Subaru, Honda, and some mazdas and nissans). Notice how I don't mention any of the luxury brands...people give up on all the overly functional expensive things to fix...

    Ok, I'm ranting...sorry...:(

I do love the toyota 1hz tho...

i took no offense at all. i am far from a eurosport enthusiast. i just thoguh it looks cool rides nice and has a hatch for my gear and tools
the day after i bought it i got a CEL for a torn diverter valve that i just placed my order for yesterday.
i though as long as i dont break it while i have thats great. i mean nothing major.
at this point money is just money i will already have to spend thousands on rebuilding the motor for my wrx so...

Some of those diverter valves will come right off, but use a heat gun (or blow dryer) to soften the hard plastic tubing, obviously don't melt it, it's pretty hard to melt it...but it's possible.

i got it out and checked it yesterday to make sure that was the problem
all i had to go on was a p2099 code with also lists malfunctioning turbo too, i was like farts i hope its the valve that commonly tears and it was thank jeebus.
    should be here next week.
anything else i should check out? or if you want to you can look her over.

if you want the utilitarianism with good mpg and reliability, get a honda element or a ridgeline as @Se7enrex mentioned. Here's my honda element after i stopped using the subie as my main recreation vehicle. IMG525.jpg

A little light on details such as budget, goals, etc.

Big difference in something to get you buy for a few months vs something a year or two, vs a second car...

What I would drive vs. recommend would probably be two different things. I would stay away from the Audi if want something that will be reasonably inexpensive unless you are dead set on one or find one that was very well maintained.

There are not a lot of sport wagon choices out there either especially if you want a manual transmission.(you mentioned space for gear). Then again it all depends on what your goals are.

i wouldn't touch an audi even with a warranty... leased a brand new A4 back in the day and couldn't wait until my lease ran out and for them to take that pos back.

Cheap, reliable, ugly: 93-97 Corolla, 92-96 Camry. Manuals are a plus.
Civics, 2.2l Subaru, and Accords. All cheap and reliable. Most are ugly. For a DD, looks shouldn't matter as much as reliability in my opinion.

I know, I work by all the acura techs at the dealer, I just liked the simplicity of the civic over all the fancy acura stuff
