I know mnsubaru seems to have a large group of random talent... just wondering if anyone plays any instruments and what? I just picked up a new chanter and have been waiting for that to arrive.
Voice. I'm a classically trained Lyric Baritone and sing in a professional choir in the Twin Cities. I was also the pitch piper in one of the best college choirs in the country.
P'shah. You always have your instrument with you. There are always opportunities to practice. Every time I get in the car I use it. (to a certain extent...) I am totally biased on this, but I believe the voice is superior to all other instruments. There is no other instrument that can match the level of expression the voice can. Even if you discount the textual bit. It is also the easiest to begin playing yet the most difficult to master. I've always loved the Cello and Oboe, though.
Well *yeah* .. I don't count that though. I mean I don't sing for others, or anything. Aslo, no time to be someone's singer.
I used to play the piano, ever since i moved out of my rents i havnt realy touched it... tryed to pick up the bass guitar but didnt get very far
A little guitar. Singing is my real love though. I haven't performed with a choir since high school but I've done plenty of weddings and coffee shop gigs.
maybe I need to bring my Washburn to teh races... you can teach me some chords... I bought it 5 yrs ago and have played it maybe 20 times for about 10 mins at a time..
trumpet player hear, havnt play since HS, but really want to try and find some pep band musing to try out again.
Percussion, but I'm one of those weird ones who prefers mallets over battery. Doesn't mean I don't enjoy a little trap set every once in a while though. Other than that, I've dabbled in guitar and spent a decent amount of time on the harmonica.
I can teach you a few things but I don't claim to be a pro. After my motorcycle wreck a while back the arthritis in my left hand doesn't let me play to much anymore.
yea pep band was always a blast - loved hockey games! I have played a bit since hs, but not a ton (in hs I did everything - marching band, pep, jazz, symphonic, pit orchestra). would love to find some time to start again.
Piano. Haven't played for a bit but can still sit and play a few when I get the chance. I'm actually looking for a piano to replace my keyboard.
I was in a choir for 9 years. electric bass (jazz upright), piano (jazz & classical) alto saxophone, harmonica. 'Nobody Move' is the name of the band that I play in. (4 years)
I don't think anyone, at least the majority of the males on here, would brag about that! :eek3: You want to be the skin flute, not play it!
Both, and I could also juggle beats/samples. I wasn't any good at drumming a 1 or 2 sample beat, though. I pretty much got bored with it and basically quit several years ago, though.
vocals piano all forms of saxophone a little guitar electronic mixing on my computer (never live) and rockband/guitar hero, but I don't count them
I used to play the regular b-flat clarinet but switched up to the one I can still play, the EE-flat Contra-Alto Clarinet (think a bass clarinet on pcp). I can also play the BB-Flat Contra-Bass Clarinet which is even bigger, but I don't own one and as such it's been a very long time. Here's the Contra-Alto
You're just not listening to the right vocalists. I'm not talking pop. Pop music has been on a steady stream of suck for the past couple decades. Listen to Dawn Upshaw in Gorecki's 3rd symphony. Mvt. 1, about 13.5 minutes in and let me know what you think. Once the strings cool down and the piano comes in, she starts to sing. Goosebumps. If you know the context and subject matter of the piece it's even more moving. If you want something more poppy, listen to Linda Eder and Anthony Warlow in the concept recording of Jekyll & Hyde. Eder has the sultriest voice you'll hear in a long while. Subtle, powerful, sooo expressive. Warlow is just frickin' amazing. I admit my bias completely. There is something about the voice as an instrument that is more visceral and authentic. No other instrument can match it.
if I ever buy some replacement needles we should do some scratching or something sometime... would be good fun. I could never find anyone who could do the turntable stuff... always straight mixing.
I used to play violin...I'm pretty sure I could still play if I still had one! I would really like to learn to play the harp!!
