So i was driving past a dealership here in Rochester, and I saw what I thought was a Honda Civic at a dealership that doesnt deal Hondas. I then realized that it was a KIA that looked quite similar to a Honda Civic.

Yup, they had to do that to make it look attractive. IMO it looks good. A good looking kia? Go figure.

well you only need to change 10% to avoid copyright issues. but i am amazed at how close these really are.. ford should know better than to do this..but then again what sells sells i guess

it looks better then a civic. Crazy, Kia Tries to emulate other manufacturers success. It is the way the world works. If you build a better mouse trap you can bet some one will copy your design.

Never said it didnt look good.

Im just saying, debadge it, and to the average joe on the street it would be easily confused for a Civic. Its the first thing that came to my mind when I saw it.

Some countries do not even recognize patents, hence all the knock-off stuff from China.

Such is the game. Any manufacturer can buy something from someone else, and take it apart for ideas.

but if you couldn't do that no one would be able to compete, and the world would come to a stand still. i used to work for a company that did this, "recycle" the old components, using there main designs and add our own flair. and then sell it back to the same company we got paid to take it out of.

Kia has done this on almost every model they have made.

Yeah, this is nothing new. Kia and Hyundai (up until recently) built their empires on stealing designs from other firms. Hyundai has finally started their own mold and it is working well for them, but Kia appears to be playing the same old schtick.

Kia is like the generic brand of pop at the grocery store, it looks the same, it costs a lot less, but when you get it, you realize why it's on the bottom shelf.

There are knock off products in every market. When the economy is down, cheap knock off products do well.

The forte coupe should have been a rebadged genesis coupe.

it does look good, but then again, the civic is due for a redesign for the 2010 model anyway, (current model started in 06). they will just have to change it enough to not look like the kia then the new kia will still look like an out dated civic...
