I believe its a repost, but yes. They are known as america's most hated family. There are always going to be people who follow a religion that preaches love, and turns it into a radical, hating message. Jihadists, and these people, for example. Where the bible is concerned, much of the general message can be found summarized in Corinthians 13. Corinthians 13:1 (which is something these westboro people should read) 'Suppose I speak in the languages of human beings and of angels. If I don't have love, I am only a loud gong or a noisy cymbal. 2 Suppose I have the gift of prophecy. Suppose I can understand all the secret things of God and know everything about him. And suppose I have enough faith to move mountains. If I don't have love, I am nothing at all.' Cor. 13:4 (the one almost all christians have heard cited a billion times) 'Love is patient. Love is kind. It does not want what belongs to others. It does not brag. It is not proud. 5 It is not rude. It does not look out for its own interests. It does not easily become angry. It does not keep track of other people's wrongs. and how Cor. 13 wraps up (13:13) 13: The three most important things to have are faith, hope and love. But the greatest of them is love. So to the people of Westboro Baptist church. Learn to read your bible if you are the christians you claim. Read about what happens to false prophets, you wont have a hard time finding scripture about those, and its not pretty. And quit spitting on the graves of the men and women who allow you to say the things you do, especially while you contribute nothing to the society that is the United States. Eventually you people will die off, and someone with a new, equally hateful message will replace you. When you are on your deathbed though, realize you lived a pointless life. Know that your children, and all those that followed you are going to waste the only life they are given to spew hate. And once they die, heres the real beauty to it. Your message will be dead, Nothing will have changed, and the only living things that will reap a benefit from your existence are worms.
I saw an episode of Hannity and Colmes where they interviewed Shirley Phelps-Roper, the daughter of Fred Phelps (WBC founder). I rarely see those two agree on anything, but they were both unanimous in calling her a wacko. I would love to see a flight of F-18s "accidentally" bomb their little compound off the face of the planet. Youtube the interview, she's about as crazy as they come, she's got the brainwashed smile and everything.
Using religion to hate on people is largely counterintuitive and infuriating. The only positive thing I can say about this largely “klanesque†group is they don’t hide behind there sheets when they throw out hate. Hate begets hate. As much rage and anger I have towards this out lashing towards innocent victims and broad-spectrum painting I have sorrow and sympathy for them. Any religious group that infringes in an outward pattern has then bypassed the reason for believing in some higher power. Religious ideals are not for threats and persecuting but a set of ideals and rules to govern yourself. I am ashamed to share my human race with these animalistic hateful people. But that statement is false. Animals don’t hate like they do. I guess this is strictly a human trait and for that I am ashamed. Fred Phelps does what he does in hopes that someone will snap and hit him or a family member. In which case he will be able to sue for big money. I don't believe that he actually 100% believes the garbage he and his followers spew.
God has the power to forgive even the most ignorant humans. I'll pray for their hateful souls. It is not up to any of us to judge one another. There isn't an infallable(sp?) person on this planet. Really sucks to see people act this way and tie God to their title...if anything, they sound like athiests, and should probably fear hell alot more than those they persecute. Kansas= Biggest red light district in the midwest, think they would focus on that instead of wasting their gas coming here.

There arent really a whole lot of words that describe my distaste for these people. Above was an attempt to show just how useless I feel their existence is. Jason-You are probably 100% correct with this. In fact the phelps family has lived off of lawsuit money for the past several years. God does have the ability to forgive anyone, however, they have to ask for it, and these people "believe" they ARE infallible. It isnt up to us to judge anyone-yet they do. They judge blindly. They say "mn deserved it, mn is a fag state" yet I doubt anyone killed in the bridge accident was even homosexual! They shouldnt use the name of God in ANY form or association with what they do, and you're right. They should fear hell a lot more than those they prosecute. Keep in mind Fred Phelps deems himself a prophet, so heres just a FEW of the passages on false prophecy. Revelation 20:10 ...thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophets had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever. ezekiel 13:10 Because of your false words and lying visions, I am against you, declares the Sovereign Lord. My hand will be against the prophets who see false visions and utter lying divinations. They will not belong to the council of my people or be listed in the records of the house of Israel, nor will they enter the land of Israel. Israel in this context is used as People of God. We had an entire sermon a few years ago that I remember vividly, because of just how humble our pastor was as he spoke it. It included many verses on false prophecy, and detailed the punishment that people who claim to be prophets will be subjected to on judgement day. These also included people such as pastors that "preach to fill pews", people who create other religions using biblical word, etc. I know I should turn the other cheek for these piss ants, but honestly, if I had attended this funeral and came out to find the WBC picketing...they better hope God steps in and stops me.

After much thought and meditation on the Westboro Baptist church hoopla, I have adapted my stance and my reaction to them. I am shocked and appalled by the absurd and hate filled language. Their infringement of ideas and hate propaganda is unnecessary and in largely a publicity stunt for their incestuous family church. My initial reaction was sorrow and shocked dismay, but now I have changed my stance. If we cause a riot of hateful publicity then we are in fact giving them what they want. They thrive on having people hate them. To them it is free press. They play into our emotions to get our knee jerk reaction of hate and anger while giving them the perpetual free press machine that they have been smart enough to create. To give them a legitimate and honest reaction is to validate them as a legitimate group. They are a hate group. That is it. They crave on making more negative energy in the world, and we help them do it. By us reacting to them in a backlash of hate and anger then we are in fact feeding into there twisted desire to create more negative energy. We are creating the hate they desire. Our moms told us best what to do in situations like this. Ignore them. If we get angry, we give them what they want. Then we are pleasing the beast and surrendering to it. If we ignore them all we have to do is wait for them to drink the Kool-aid and fade away, as all good cults do. Unless a fiery Waco like situation comes first. As to being part of the Sodomite Damned, and being filthy and lawless, I hold my head high in pride to be part of such a great community of Minneapolis. The fact that they are angry because the police did nothing when there precious tag board pickets were stolen, makes me proud, such items of propaganda do not reward police action. I do not pretend to know how the police in Topeka act but ours are busy actually doing the work for our community. We as a community are stronger then to buckle and bow to the acts of hate and god fearing smite and the Westboro Baptist Church. We have to treat them like training a dog. Do not enforce there negative behaviors with attention and recognition. Do not feed into their machine, We have the power to ignore them and to not legitimize them as a group.
I think this is great advice. I know it can be hard sometimes though. I think you're exactly right in that they are trying to get an emotional/aggressive response from people and they'll try to profit or benefit from it. Very true, and I think it's a little funny sometimes how the basics of dog training can be applied in other situations, it's just so simple and effective but people tend to think the solution needs to be more complicated.
People are animals. The opposable thumbs do not separate us, that far from basic animal psychology and mind sets. They are just “throwing poo†so to speak. Thanks for the back up.

As much as I appreciate freedom of speech and respecting other peoples points of view I have to file these wackos in a different category. If it were a friend or relative of mine who they were picketing I'd likely re route the funeral procession over them. Twice, just to make sure. I think all of us should go to an adult bookstore, find as many subscription cards for the raunchiest magazines we can and fill them all out to their address with the "Bill Me Later" option checked. <-----Not as kindhearted or forgiving as some of the people in this thread when it comes to certain things.
First of all I dig everyone here and this is not some "holier then thou" moment. I have to swallow a lot of pride, anger, and macho bravado to be at the point I am now, when it comes to things like this. If we rally up troops and backlash this then we are doing exactly what they want us to. Then they win. By us giving in to the anger that they create we are validating them as a group and adding fuel to the fire. Bypass the Pavlovian response that we are programmed to. Instead if people start ignoring them then they are going to have to up their ante and pretty son they will legally over step there bounds and then the police have legal reasons to arrest and remove them. But their whole stance is placed on us making an illegal move so they have fodder for them to retaliate. I appreciate everyone passion behind giving these sickos there comeuppance but time and their misdeed will do that for us, leaving our hands clean, and free. Two wrongs don’t make a right but in time they will make more then enough “wrongs†that will catch up with them. And all the karma and living balanced stuff aside I too would love to see them plowed over by a parade of Mack trucks, following by a marching band wearing golf cleats.
