Just wondering what made everyone a Subaru fanatic.

    I'll start.

I had always wanted an Outback. For one reason or another I just never went out and bought one.
Four years ago my wife and I drove by a local auto dealer and saw an 07 Subaru Legacy 2.5I. I must admit it had been a while since I paid any real attention to the Subaru lineup. I thought then, and still do today, that the Legacy was one of the BEST designed cars I had ever seen.
She bought the Legacy and after driving it the first winter in our fair state of Minnesota, I decided I MUST have one.

I went out and found my 98 Outback. Drove it home and replaced the head gaskets and timing components and water pump. It has been 4 years and I am happy to report, about all I have done to it is change oil and drive it. It has even survived my sons attempts at destruction.

I now have an 05 LGT that has undergone a serious engine modification. My wife still drives the one that started it all. I have my LGT and the Outback.

My son has an 03 bugeye WRX and a 92 Legacy with a Jdm Gc8 EJ20G conversion. ( not a project for the faint of heart).

Whats your story? Feel free to post up some pics. I will do a family portrait after all of them get cleaned up and get in a line.

Rode around in Brent La Fleur's 2004 WRB WRX and got hooked on the rumble of the boxer! Still love that car - it is so clean.

Growing up I was really into rally racing, I think its way more exciting to race on dirt trails rather than a paved oval. I drove a Jeep for a few years, traded it in for my STI and will never go back.

I've been modifying turbocharged cars since 1993 and wanted to play with something I'd not had yet. I drove a co-workers '05 LGT and liked most everything, except the long throw of the shifter. Found an '05 with 19k miles in April of '06 and ran with it. :)

The first time I put my foot into my buddy's stage 2 E85 04 STi with about 10k on it. I was pretty keen on them already through WRC, but that drive is what made me actually want to buy one. This was in '04, so the idea that something like that could be had for < $40k was mind blowing.

    Lol...inside joke

I wanted AWD + Turbo & Subaru had a decent setup. So I bought a WRX. But would get an EVO if I had to do it all over again.

Drove down to IOWA in 2002 to pick up a 2000 2.5RS for my cousin's girlfriend. 14 hours in a Ford Probe, I didn't get to drive the Subie back :(

I was hooked after that. I lived with my cousin, so I got to take her car around a few times. I started to drool over the turbo'd idea of her car. I waited 7 years to buy my WRX. It was always my goal. I have been with my wife almost as long as my love for Subies. She said I could get one, she always backed my fanatic love for them... then June 2009 she told me to go shopping. Here I am

In school (2000ish), I was intrigued by stage rally. Especially the '80s Audis.

At that time, my parents were both driving Subarus. My dad a '92 Loyale FWD, and my dad a '92 Legacy FWD.

Then, the Baja came out. I thought this was a funky little car, very outside-the-box. Didn't want to own one, still don't, but still cool. I started looking around at the baja, and it didn't take long to stumble across the Brat. And then I stumbled across the Hatch Patrol (a club in the PNW of lifted '80s Subarus, that did some serious offroading). I thought that was neat...

Then I got my driver's license, and my interest in cars increased massively. I was driving my dad's Loyale for some time, but I wanted something 5MT and 4WD. So I bought an '85 GL Wagon for $700. And that was just the start.

Then came the blue '88, which arrived on a flatbed with a broken timing belt. A month or so later, it pulled out of the garage with a 4" lift....this one was in SubieSport magazine in 2006ish

Then a '94 LGT that was supposed to be a parts car....

Then the Loyale got a 4WD 5MT swap from the '85, and EJ22 swap from the '92 Legacy.

    Then the black lifted '88.

Then an '86 wagon that got an Ej22 swap and resold

    Then an '87 parts wagon

    Then an '89 XT6

    Then an '88 XT6

    Then an '84 Brat

made me a believer in the rumor that Subarus are for

Anyway, my first real car was an SVX that I acquired from a family friend in '97. Liked it but didn't love it so I gave it back and bought a supra instead. Almost a decade later I tried Subarus again and still liked them but didn't love them. A turbo roadster version of the brz is something I could see myself loving though. Subarus do make great beaters and winter commuters. I'll probably have one as long as I live in this kind of climate.

Dan pidde's original 93' Tleg was built in my buddies garage just down the road and I figured out quickly how easy they were to work on and how they were just like legos. I was sold, the next spring I bought my 98' GT with out ever even sitting in one from San Diego (rust free FTW) and paid for my dad to flyout and drive it back. The rest is history, and after driving it my dad wanted one too and now has an 07' legacy 2.5i

Now when people ask me about the special man in my life, I tell them that he's got AWD and 300 horsepower.

I went the other way. I sold the WRX and found a woman that likes cars. The only influence she exerted on the purchase of my last car was to sit and egg me on to purchasing a 350Z when I was sitting there at the Nissan dealer's desk contemplating the numbers. "You've wanted one since 2003, you can obviously afford it, just ****ing buy it." We're driving it away from our wedding next weekend.

I started out a Ford fan, and still own some. After driving a bunch FWD cars around, and getting through the winter. I upgraded to a heavily modified SVT Contour. While I never got stuck with it, the winters were terrible on the front bumper as it sat so low. After cracking the bumper twice, and having a kid, I decided I needed a "normal car" for the winter.

After considering some Jeep Gran Cherokee's, Escapes, Explorers, and a Blazer, I drove the Outback XT on a whim and liked much more then the others. After purchasing, it did a good job transporting the kid and family. Then the winter hit and it was like night and day. While the SVT has a LSD and could basically powered through anything. The XT just went no hesitation, no real wheel spin. The only thing I really had to adjust was my driving, to prevent the back end from kicking out.... well at least when I don't want it to ;).

I'm still not sure I'm a believer after finding all that damn rust. a 2005 shouldn't be rotting out from underneath me.

Once it's back from the shop, it's a dedicated summer car only from that point on.

I do however like the fact that a station wagon can beat up on a lot of cars, no one suspects a thing! The boxer rumble is intoxicating. I like Audi's AWD system better, but this is still pretty good. clutch feels great, it handles well for it's size and weight.

All in all I don't regret the purchase, but believer? dunno yet.

I was in high school and just getting into cars when the bugeyes came out and they drew my attention. Then the STi made its introduction in the US and there was just something about it that I loved. It's the mix of speed, handling, uniqueness (well used to be), affordability, sound, winter drivability, and looks (beauty is in the eye of the beholder).

I'm sure I'll get into a different car at some point, but would prefer to keep a Subaru as a DD.

Getting bored with cars turned into wanting to do weird shizz to my lgt.

First car was a 95 camaro v6. I thought the car was awesome except that my dad didn't allow me to purchase the v8 for my first car. Obviously a huge jump but prob best he didn't let me. In 2007 I decided I had had enough of the Duluth winters even with Snow Tires, studs, and sandbags and decided to look into other options. I rode in a buddy's 04 wrx wagon really not knowing what I was getting into at all and remember saying "Holy s***! This fu**** flies!" It's AWD and gets what for mpg?? = SOLD!

Wanted to buy an STi but couldnt afford one combined with insurance quotes I was getting so I went with my 06 wrx and have tastefully modified it into what I think is a great DD setup. That being said, I can't wait to get in an STi hatch in the next couple years orrrr maybe a Forester XT

It was a while back, I was younger then. I woke up to the sound of it. I walked downstairs and saw the awesome red color. It had some white in it, but it was not rice-like at all. Very well done. I continued to hear that sound and I knew there was only going to be awesome good-ness. That's when you could smell that it was full of power. A smell that won't turn you away, but turn you towards that. It was finally served up to me and I got to try it out. I was hooked right away.... And that was the first time I had bacon. Instant believer.

I had wanted a Legacy since high school, and actually didn't care for the 3rd gens when they came out. A few years went by, they grew on me, and I finally bought a '00 LGT.

Couple more years and I wanted more power, so I started looking for an 4th gen LGT. One came up at a local dealer, and this post convinced me to pull the trigger: http://legacygt.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1059105&postcount=851
