Besides daily driving, grocery runs, road trips, rally and auto-x, winter shenanigans, (other shenanigans), car camping, etc., etc. we learned last Saturday night that you can also have a baby born in the back seat of a wrx wagon. Who knew? Baby and mom did great through the whole thing including the rest of the trip to the hospital. In hindsight it was probably less hassle than it would have been to have made it on time and then had to go through all the in-processing (monitoring, how-far-are-you-now checks, etc). But really what do I know about that stuff, I was just the driver/catcher. Well, and maybe moral support. Anyway, Maxwell Hugin, 8lbs, 20 in. Pretty laid back. Sleeps great, eats like its going outta style - cluster nurses and then sleeps it off for a few hours. Also fills diapers like he is going for some kind of record. And he is not quiet about that business: "Was that you?" "No, the baby." "Seriously!?" Yeah, seriously. He likes to be held and falls asleep best that way - great excuse for a nap sometimes, I will say. During the day he does spend a lot of time awake just hangin' out with us as long as we're holding him or engaging him in some way. He is a thorough joy and his big brother adores him and is great with him. Good times. And Subaru ftw!
congrats... were you rally racing at the time?? look at the hair.. ha ha that is one studly looking dude you have there!!
lol and thanks. Baby was born at 9:51 p.m. and with all the deer we have around here I had to keep the speed somewhat closer to speed limit than I might have been tempted to do during the day. Even on I-94. Didn't need that added to the mix that night - if you remember the video of Travis Pastrana at Sno*Drift last year (?) - didn't have time to be outta the race...lol. We love the hair, too. I'm hoping it wasn't my driving that night... His brother had a lot of hair when he was born to (but not that much) plus full peach fuzz sideburns and beard. It all fell out eventually and then he grew a new crop so we'll just hafta wait and see.
How old is your baby in those pics? He does not look like a new born. I have never had kids, or seen many babies, but if I were to take a shot in the dark, I would guess that he is like 6 months old...
First pic is at about 2.5 days and second pic was this morning so about 6.5 days. He is pretty strong and has more movement than we expected, but his mom commuted to work all winter on a mountain bike (with studded tires) and then switched to walking about a month ago. That's a little shy of 1.5 miles each way the short way. As I understand the mother's physical activity/fitness directly effects the hitchhiker's physical conditioning. But that's as I understand it, I could be wrong.
