I know these are two completely different cars but I need to decide on which way to go.

My heart and head are at odds.

I drove the Legacy GT it was nice to have a more grown up car, however I didn't care for the clutch and it's just sooo damn quite. I also didn't like the power delivery, lots of dead spots.

I am sure a tune would do wonders for it.

On the other hand the STI would be great but I would like it to be a little more conservative.

    Opinions anyone?

I would probably go for the Spec C, I drive mostly highway and it seems like the Leg is a little more comfortable on the long stretches

did u drive the Spec B Leggy or just the GT? The spec B should be a better feel since it is the STi 6sp.

Spec B any day of the week and twice on Sunday. Far more civilized, the chassis/suspension is a better roadgoing design and the creature comforts are nice to have. Ask Matt for a ride in his ;)

Well as I have a LGT and an STI really to me at this point in my life the LGT is much nicer to drive and so much more refined. You can drive around and most people don't even notice the car. On the other hand the STi is much more of a head turner. Every light there is some yahoo that wants to race you, and frankly I am sick of it.

As for the clutch in the Lgt they use a spring loaded flywheel that takes most of the shock out of the drivetrain. This could be eliminated with the use of a different flywheel. There are also two valves that limit the speed at which the clutch can be engaged. These are also on the STi as well.

My .02 get the LGT, plus the spec b guys are talking that they get 28 MPG!!

aren't the spec B clutch the same as the STi? the 07+ are 6 sp...

The first year ones were just a GT with a 5sp./Navi and brick leather...rim and suspension a bit different too...

IIRC they use the same large diameter as the STI but the flywheel is the spring dampened one. Maybe Brian can look into it in the morning and clarify it.

Thanks for all the replys, I still have the little rocket wagon for fun.

I think the Spec B is the right choice, all the creature comforts. Next time I am at Firestone I will see if Matt can show me what can really be done with the Leg.

The clutch and power curve are the only two negatives I could see.

Now to find the best deal in town, any ideas?

They only come in two colors for 08, a lighter grey and a darker grey. We had an 07 and an 08 on the lot but the 08 was a special order for someone. If you get a chance come on up and I can show you the 07. The dark grey is dead sexy and very stealthy.

Ray, I know Matt's isn't stock but it's a very good example of what you can do with them and how civilized even a highly modded one can be. Also, the first year had the Bilsteins and 18in wheels as well as the red interior, Nav etc.

I'll have the flywheel part numbers up in the morning.

What do you want more? An all out performance car or a car with nice features, good road manner and decent power? Answer that and you'll be set. I test drove a spec b and it was for sure nice but didn't give me nearly the giggle factor the STI did. Haven't regretted the decision one bit. Maybe in a few years I'll feel the same way as Matt.

haha...I know...that's y i said on the earlier post the suspension and rims are different too...:p

honestly though...comfort level of the ride between the GT and Spec B...~~~ehhhh...pretty much the same...a bit more bumpy on the Spec B but not much...*supposedly a bit stiffier* better for cornering....

Plus I've been hanging out too much with aftermarket stuff that I forget what's stock anymore...lol

The Legacy has always(well, since 1989) been the flagship model for Subaru. They have alway been better built and more refined than the impreza. Not to say the impreza hasn't been a solid vehicle. Its just that the Legacy seems to have a little more of their "toutch."

If said "flat spots" are a problem, a simple tune will take care of that for you. Power is trivial. You can make as much power as you want to or your pockets allow, but you cannot get around the vehicle itself.

The spec b flywheel is a 12310aa370, and the sti flywheel is a 12310aa340, so i guess they are different, but it doesnt show why

Exactly why I got out of the turbo RS and into the LGT.

The Spec B is a fantastic car but the suspension can be a bit harsh for some. An AP, even at Stage 1, is a marked improvement to the performance of the car. With just that, a UP/DP, maybe a mid or TBE, and Prodrive or ScoobySport cans you're pretty much at STi power with not quite the noise. I don't care for the brakes much, but I'm pretty spoiled on brakes.

Oh and talk to Scott Putnam at Bloomington for deals on remaining 07s.

Your right there but we have the wagon and the Ford X, need something to haul clients around in as well.

Kids are grown and out of the house, if I can help it I will never be hauling sheetrock or other DIY supplies again.

+1...I like the Spec B, but the STi did, as webcrawlr states, give me that giggle factor....the Spec B did not. But, I wouldn't mind a daily driver that didn't ellicit the race factor at every light.
