What to do next on 2.5RS?

I have a '99 2.5RS with a Cobb CAI, Borla headers, and Apexi N1 catback exhaust. What would be the next best mod to do that is not too expensive. Also, would I lose any HP if I put the silencer on my exhaust?

Suspension is good, but you'll lose a bit from ride comfort. More power is good, but you'll lose a bit from engine/tranny life. Tires are good, but you'll miss your RE92s. ;)

Tell us your goals for your car, and we'll help as much as we can.

I basically want it to be as fast as possible for as cheap as possible without killing my engine too fast. I am fairly content with the way it handles. Plus I have to make a lot of trips between Minneapolis and Duluth so I'd rather not sacrifice too much comfort. Are potenza's really that bad of tires I don't mind them much?

No one knows whether or not there is any HP loss from the silencer, huh?

There really aren't any other power mods beyond what you have that are "cheap"...making an NA car fast while staying NA is hugely expensive, as are any other possibilities.

Otherwise, start saving up for a car that is fast out of the box.

The RE92 tires will make your car handle sluggish because it is not a performance tire (no matter what Bridgestone or Subaru says). If a kid jumps into the street and you have only a couple of seconds to react, you'll end up killing yourself rather than the kid.

If you're looking for good, continuous power, get things lightened up (pulleys/flywheel) and let the engine breathe better. Get a header with a high flow cat. Langston Subaru just had the MRT header on Ebay a month back for $199 and the matching MRT catback for $199 also. It's mild steel, but you can always get it jet hot coated and be worry-free from rusting issues.

i believe there is a hp loss, because then the exhaust gases has to squeeze through the little silencer hole. i also have a magazine where they tested different silencers and compared them to exhaust that didnt have one. according to the magazine...you will lose 3-5 hp

get better tires, if you want good road suspensions go with eibach springs and kyb gr2 along with rear 20mm sway. They seem perfect for road and everyday driving. Not that stiff of a ride at all. you can always ask kickin_81 for a ride since that's his setup(minus 20mm sway). Then to go faster, get lighten flywheel, pullies, street clutch, reflash ecu or piggyback(not cheap but good power gains),cobb whole exhaust system(header back, proven 14hp gain =D)and i think that's about it for cheap n/a mods.

get a lighter battery then put it in the trunk and better tires or bigger rear sway bar, the stock one is only 13mm. and i think u can get a lil negative camber in front too. i dont remember if the stock struts can do that.

Ok, so let me get this straight. The consensus on the best things I can do are the flywheel, pulleys, tires, and sway bar, right? I won’t buy anything else from Cobb unless I absolutely have to because they are the worst company I have ever dealt with. What brands of all these do you all feel will give me the best results? Does installing a new ECU really do much other than disable the governor? I am pretty poor until this summer but when I get some money which mod should I consider doing first and why?

Most mods you do to your car are worth it. Tires will be even more fun if you have a bigger rear sway bar and front/back end-links. I just switched from my winters tires to my summer Yokohama ES100 tires, and it's already so much fun! The car handles great! :D

tires are huge man, i went from the re92's to potenza s0-3's on my impreza, everytime i upgrade tires it amazes me the difference they make. i went from azenis's to victorracers on my nissan and it felt like a whole new car.... and a whole lot faster.

i'd say tires and rear swaybar, i've seen the fhi bigger bars for sale cheap (well under 100 bucks).
