so i just picked up an 04 wrx wagon, an am looking to get a little more power.

    i have 2/3 ideas

    1. 20g turbo, i have one sitting in my garage, all it needs is a rebuild and would work great, how would i bolt it up? it has a dsm flange, can you get an adapter or do you have to get a whole housing with the subie flange? if so where would i find that?

    2. E85, this is very interesting to me, but i dont know what injectors and fuel pump i would need to run??? anyone else run E85 and have success?

    3. Both 20g and E85... this would be the most expensive way but would be fun...

I am also thinking about doing nothing to it because i am afraid of breaking the trans. i know these are the weak part.

lets see what you all think...

Stage 2? Good gains and very affordable. Also, easy on the trans.:)

    And welcome to MnSubaru!

E85 is great but you have to know how to tune and need huge fuel injectors (about 600cc for the stock turbo) and a wideband O2 sensor.

lol i already have stage 2, want to go bigger.
    thanks for the welcome

i have heard of guys running E85 through sti pinks on a stock turbo, i do know how to tune and that will be done no matter what and the wideband is on the way very soon.

    I'd probably go with something around 850cc for a 20g + e85.

Yes, Tom ran E85 and usually ran a quick tune on each tank of fuel. E85 blends vary a large amount during different manufacturing times.

Yeah, I would typically do a little touch up every other tank due to the constantly changing ethanol levels in the the fuel.

i am prepared to do that. what kind of fuel pump did you run?

what about the 20g bolting to the subaru? is there adapter flanges avail? or housings?

I think the standard Walbro that everybody get would suffice.

Your standard aftermarket Walbro fuel pump will be just fine. It's when you start running 1000+cc injectors that you need to start looking into larger options (aeromotive, dual walbros, etc).

Pinks are right on the edge of what you need. They won't be enough when its zero outside. They are probably easier to tune than modded stockers, I would guess.

Sell it and buy something Subaru-specific. Personally I would hate havinga 20g on a 2.0l car, but some people don't mind waiting around for them to spool.

a 20g is going to take a very minimal amount longer to spool than a 16g

    Is this your daily driver?

If so the 16g evo 3, 650+cc injectors, and big tmic would be a great reliable set-up. Not much lag and a heck of a punch..much better than a stage 2 set-up and friendlier than a 20g in traffic.

yes it is my daily, i was already planning on doing a big TMIC, the funny thing is i have a 16g from an evo in my garage also, but again, how can i bolt it with the dsm flange to a subie flange?

flatline....it is completely stupid to try to mount that up....it REALLY doesn't make any sense...sell it and buy something subaru specific...and i hope while you are driving everywhere every gas station has e85...cause if not your basically ****ed

yeah, keep it simple. get yourself a slowboy, deadbolt, or forced performance turbo specifically made for the wrx. There's other popular options too.

FYI- no offense here, but it sounds like you should continue your research.

    a. go subaru specific
    b. keep your tranny gear life in mind. stock gears & 20g with aggressive shifting won't last too long.
    c. figure out where you want the power band, mid range or top end.
    d. get a good tune

Thanks for the info! thats exactly the help i was looking for:roll:
i posted up to get help, to see if there was an easy way to mount it because i have 2 of them sitting in my garage... it would be the cheapest way for me.

and btw i do know not all stations have E85:biggrin:

btw- i noticed you were concerned about your tranny. I don't think you'd have issues if you went with a 16g standard or 16g evo3. Heck, mine still shifts shifts great and gears seem solid. (16g set-up)

what engine management do you currently have for stage 2?

OpenECU tune. I took Tom's map from when he had the car and just re-tuned the boost.

If you have two other turbos sitting around, sell both of them and use the money to get one Subaru-flanged 16g.

honestly, no clue. rough guess? around 265...much faster than stage 2 for sure. in the lower gears i hit full boost (20.7) by 2800-2850 rpm
