So not being one to pass up an opportunity for better performance and increased hp, I picked this up last week wanting to pick up the extra 5-10 hp that these are known for. To get closer to that 10-hp gain, I think it might need to be refinished. I do not have a small powder coating unit for that would be ideal! So, do I scuff and rattle can and call it a day? Ideas? Hope you enjoyed the satire...
I think to wring the maximum HP gain, it has to be a bright color. Quality of the finish is secondary. Rattle can it pink or safety-lime.
If you're gonna go through with painting it, I wonder how that would look painted body color. I'm sure Welle or someone could get you the Subaru yellow in a spray can. And with the engine bays never actually matching the exterior, the paint match wouldn't have to be perfect. That or just redo it in black and call it a day. Would be a lot easier to "maintain"
A can of bbq grill paint. You can touch it up fresh each year for the Cars and Coffee season. For an extra 2 hp, go with a smoker paint instead of grill. Happy tuning!!
If I didn't know your car was sonic yellow I would say grab the cherry blossom red paint from grimmspeed but I second what krazylegz said either do yellow or just black.
Going with the black. Before I do anything I want to check the patina against the rest of the underhood.
It almost looks like crinkle finish paint in that photo. Looks like it is called wrinkle finish...I would have sworn it was called crinkle finish.
