Those are your best starting points. Modifications don't really add much value, and can possibly subtract from the value, depending on what's been done.

I appreciate it. I've run those values but, especially on the M5, they're completely off from market.

Yea, I hear you. Getting a value for a used, modded car is tough.

If your M5 is truly worth $26k, I definitely do not think that 07 sti is worth $26k. It has a built motor and over 60k miles. In my personal opinion, I'd say it's worth low $20k's, possibly even high teens.

For reference, I sold my 08 STI with 60k, built motor, larger turbo, fueling upgrades, and other bolt-on's. I had everything well documented and it was a well thought-out build. I sold it for $24k, and was pretty happy with that price. Sometimes the 06-07's fetch a higher/comparable selling price to the 08+'s, but it better be in darn good condition.

I find NADA spot on for pricing car's. Your car is listed at $26,475. That's what i'd expect to pay at a dealership. Clean trade in is 23,250. Considering there are flaw's and a maintenance light "Doesn't matter how small or big" It's avg trade in is 21,000. I'd say your car is a sale at 22,000-24,000 to the right buyer. Private party should be less than dealership, but more than what you can trade it in for at a dealership.

Sti is worth around 18k-22k, clean retail is 22k at the dealership. Clean trade in is 18k. It could bring more from the right buyer as it's a limited production front bumper & headlights. Engine is built "Could bring it to that top end sale price to the right buyer".

Now seeing as we don't know the car history on either, wrecks or anything. I'd suggest him to add 2k and call it even. Your car should be lower end of sale price due to 4 owners. BMW guy's are stickler's for those thing's.

If you want the STI to drive, get it. It will hold it's value up to about 80k miles. BMW will go down soon once it's over 100k. If you're looking to make a profit on a quick resale. It's not worth it. Too close to make money on.

At the end of the day, this is just my opinion. But i've also helped people buy plenty of car's and i've been through a lot.

The warranty on your M5 is nice for sure, the S85 bearings are known problems. I would think the M5 is worth a good amount more than an 07 sti. Just much scarier to own without a warranty.
