What's next? Outback GT Limited vs. A4 Avant vs. Saab 93 SportCompe

I'm upgrading through a losing battle with the wife. New fancy job means new " professional looking " car. So it goes...

 

Legacy GT

 

It needs to be a wagon. 2 dogs, lots of biking, hiking, and camping... She has an A4 which won't even get wet.

 

AUDI A4 Avant.... I lov'em(not the Avant model but the A4 sedan)

WTF is wrong with the Outback XT? Aren't they still sharing the drive train with the LGTs? I like the OBXT more than the LGT wagon anyway, that lift is HOT. I totally would have an Outback sedan if it had the turbo 2.5.

It looks like Subaru is gonna give us the best deal. Now it's between an Outback 2.5xt limited and a Forester 2.5XT Sport

slower steering rack
even more body roll

Still OBXT is nice and looks really nice dropped with the fender flares.

As for the audi, if its still in the running, what year and engine?
The 1.8T is a disaster used. Look up sludge problem.
3.0 is decent but has some potentially extremely expensive CCT issues. Not enough to keep me away. A bit under power.
2.8 (30V) is a durability beast (lots of forged bits). Very reliable. Also not powerful (In large part because of heavy ass parts). Drinks gas (but at a slightly slower rate than the LGT, but LGT gets 60hp more)
3.2 Decent engine but epxensive.
2.0T Pretty nice. Some issues with excess engine wear in early engines. Become an oil nerd, you'll need to be, extremely sensitive to oil (not as senstive as the 1.8t though)
2.7TT -- ist like the 2.8 but faster and the turbos die at 60-100k. Did I mention turbos was an engine out procedure? With K04s, reasoanble reliablity
4.2 -- reliable (but expensive if something goes), powerful, expensive as hell.

 

It's for a new job. I finally got in to a management position with a local software company and I guess the wife thinks I should look the part. I'd kinda feel/look like a moron getting out of my dropped wagon with loud exhaust and blacked out windows right next to the 25yr old engineer I'm managing projects with.

The audi avant is out of the running since I can't find a new one in the Las Vegas area. I'm between a OBXT, Forester XT Sport and a Saab 93SCombe

 

meh, my last IT job had 3 STi drivers come through the place in 1 year, including management types.

 

Eh, no one really cares if you do your job right unles syou ahve to drive clients around.
Might put a quieter exhaust on.
Rumor (that i can't back up) is that recent SAABs are having issues.

 

Totally agree, without all the spelling errors though. If the others give you the stink eye give it right back but in a way that is like "pshh you drive an old persons car".

 

Yeah, stupid old people's cars. Well, it's pretty much a done deal at this point. If I go with another subaru I'll be sure to slap on my ap and get a little more juice out of it.

Yeah, but for that price I might as well get an Avant. And no dice on finding a STI around here anyhow. Snob Galore!

 

Forester xt 2.5 is FTW, let alone a WHITE one. Im such a sucker for anything white. My next suby might just be an LGT wagon(white). Outback, not so much FTW.
