Chux left a note on my car on campus at UMD saying it was sweet and that I should check the site out. I just had to pick on him a little. I think it is funny how cool everyone in Duluth thinks my RS is. The only thing I have done to it is intake, exhaust and headers. I love the car and all I just never thought of it as "sweet."

If it's a GC8 2.5RS, then it's sweet by default. It's one of the hottest looking cars to ever come out of Japan as far as I'm concerned. Doesn't matter so much what's under the hood. A hot car with a little less HP is still hot. It's like picking that hot blonde with an IQ of 10 over the brainy-yet-ugly chick. :X

Trust me, you're car is awesome! Even stock, at the time, I was getting into my girlfriends FORD ESCORT, and, well, look at my sig to see what I "drive" (currently it's in my parents yard in Orono...).

I think that generation (what...'97ish) 2.5 is THE hottest car subaru has ever made (except maybe an RX, but where can you get your hands on one of those!)

I'll stop rambling, good to see ya join up, and welcome!

There is another kid at UMD that has had his modded for a while now. He went to my high school. It is pretty much the exact same car as mine- a black '99 I think. I don't think the can on the back of his is as obnoxiously large though.

I guess I will have to admit that the car is pretty cool and with the mods it is pretty fast. I guess I just find it funny that people like it so much because back in tonka there are 16 yr olds driving around in sti's (spoiled little brats). I agree that it is definitely the best looking subaru ever made but that, in my opinion, is because they put such ugly spoilers on all the others.

so how many rs guys that u know of right now? i only know theres a kid got a white 98 with a syms replica kit on also. and then now u and ur friend. maybe we can have a rs meet and go cruise around on skyline.

That would be all that I know of. I am not sure I like having as many as I have seen lately. I bought the car because I liked the fact that so few other people had them. They are hard to find too. It is kind of cool though because it is like an exclusive club or something. Much better than my roommate driving an eclipse. Those things are everywhere and they are nothing compared to subarus. Plus, they are fricken girls cars.
Cruising Skyline is an awful lot of temptation for me to forget traffic laws. At least on Hawk's ridge, after it turns to dirt, I sometimes forget that it is still a road and it is not safe to rip through there. Every place around here that is off-road has so many huge rocks that I don't have enough ground clearance to go play. It makes me sad.:(

So what mods do you have done to your RS? I like hearing what other people have done to theirs, unless it is clear tail lights and a giant alluminum spoiler. If you are going to do that crap buy a Honda. I hear that clear tail lights add ten horsepower to those.

i got a minnam turbo kit, ej257 short block, wrx injectors, sard fpr, walbro fuel pump, safc2, 3in exhaust with no cat, cusco zero2, 19mm rear sway bar, ssr comp with s03 tires and endless brake pads in front. its in the garage right now and taking the motor apart to put forged piston in it and built up the heads and switch to hydra ems and hopefully i still got money left to put a new front bumper and 22b fenders and a new paint job in.

and the only good part on skyline that i can think of right now is the part from 27th ave w to 40th ave w, the road is really smooth, only got a lil bump on the bridge corner. and jay cook by gary is pretty fun too, but kinda dangerous, u go up and down, some time if u go too fast u might catch air.

So here's an idea. We spend so much time getting together down here in St. Paul, maybe we should all road trip to Duluth for a day or two this summer. We'd be the hottest ticket in town I'll bet.

Whats so great about a giant exhaust? I wish mine was smaller. I'm not positive but I think it is like 3.5 in. Battle Scar do you mean you dont have a catback or dont have a catalytic converter? If you have a can with no catback then you really must be from Duluth. I would think that would be awfully restrictive though, especially with the turbo. So I am going to assume you mean no catalytic converter. How much of a difference does the sway bar make? I have heard mixed reviews on the subject. I have also heard that adding a turbo to an RS nets a surprising lower amount of horsepower than would be expected.

Duluth is a pretty sweet town. I love it here except for the people. They are the snoopiest, most uptight bastards of any town I’ve ever been to. That’s not something you’d notice just from visiting though. I really want to find like an old sandpit to play in or something like that up here. I have seen some around the area that would be perfect but they were far away and I don’t remember exactly how to get to them. The most fun road to drive on the north shore is up near Finland off highway 1. It has the craziest curves and it banks almost like a race track. There are hardly ever any cars on it but you need to be careful because one time I almost hit a moose, another I almost hit a couple deer, and a third time I almost hit a family of raccoons eating some road kill. The state forest hunting roads are usually fun to drive but it can’t be during hunting season.

u mean 3.5in tip or 3.5in pipe? if its 3.5in pipe and u got a na car then it way too big. and mine is 3in catback with no cat. and duluth is no fun. chicks are uglier and fatter, cars are slower and ricer. i say we should have a meet on saturday night on midway. and then have a BBQ on sunday afternoon or eat at hooters. i think its a good plan, u guys think so?

Yea it is just the tip. It makes me look like a ricer. You be nice to the Duluth girls. I am dating one and she is far from ugly and fat. We have beautiful women here. It is Wisconsin that has ugly fat chicks. I can't defend the ricer cars, they make me sick. When will Duluthians learn that a Cavalier is not a sports car and that obnoxious aluminum spoilers and clear tail lights should not come standard on every car? I would have to say that I like Duluth a hell of a lot better than St. Paul though. Nothing ever happens there and the chicks are all over 70.

Yea I saw another RS by campus today. It was a silver one but I didn’t get a good look at it. There was a newer one without the hood scoop at the library too. I don’t much like those though.

my girl is from duluth also, and shes not ugly and fat. but when i used to work at my parents' restaurant (jade fountain), there are always fat chicks come in and order cream cheese wontons and a diet coke. im not saying duluth got no hot chicks, i see a bunch of hotties in lsc and umd, but i think there are more hotties in the cities then in duluth. im sure u see more hotties in mall of america then in miller hill mall right? and there is a silver rs working at dimanos(dont know how to spell it) pizza by umd.

I always see more hot girls at Miller Hill. The Mall of America is full of fat tourists. My friend and I went to Mall of America one time just because we were bored and wanted to hit on girls. We did not see one hot girl the entire time. Now granted most of the hot girls up here are college students from back in the Twin Cities but anytime there is a town outside of Wisconsin that has college students as a very large portion of its population there are going to be tons of hot girls. Up here you can tell how far away from campus you are by how ugly the girls are. Plus, no matter what restaurant you work at in any city, there are going to a lot of fat chicks coming in. Minnetonka had a lot more hot girls than anywhere I’ve ever been but that is because they are all trophy wives and daughters.

I saw the silver rs driving by Scholastica.

Heh, looks like a lot's been said since I last posted here. :D Trust me folks, I'm not exactly proud of the big ol' coffee can I have sticking out of the back of my car, it was the previous owner's idea. I will admit that when combined with my Borla headers, it sounds ok, but I'd kill for a smaller tip. As soon as I get caught up on bills, I'm going to get Cobb headers and the whole catback setup. It's gonna be sweeeeeeet. :p

Nah, I have next to zero appearance mods on my car. Probably just the window tint and the three website logos that aren't very conspicuous. I prefer the term "sleeper" }:)

hell 2.5RS_Freek, it's a **** coupe... and it's silver. goes for you too, UMDrinking - that's probably the best looking stock Subaru of all time in my book. well, ok, so maybe it's beat by a JDM type R, but that's basically the same body style and right hand drive, so it washes. I would pay >$50 more a month for my wrx if it was just a two-door instead of the stupid 4 door... just my opinion of course ;)

And I'd rather have a 4-door than the stupid 2-door, but it was the only one that presented itself with the price and modifications I was looking for. Did you the 4-door GCs weigh a good 50 lbs less than the coupes? I'm not sure exactly why but I remember seeing several sources say this. I could have kept the speakers in my car then. Besides, 4-doors are more convenient for getting things in and out.

On another note re: the RS I did my oil last night. Was going to do transmission fluids but forgot them at home. I waited a little too long between oil changes but everything looked fine from underneath and the oil wasn't terribly dark. I lost hardly a drop of oil between changes, I think the stick read maybe 1/4 quart low before I dumped it. :D

However lately I have been smelling what I swear is coolant cooking, that sweet smell it makes, but I'm not really losing coolant at any rate. I thought I had maybe spilled some the last time I topped it off but it should have burned off by now. Didn't notice a single leak under the car and I left it parked on a clean patch of snow last night for a few hours and not a single drip. Where else would I be burning coolant? Or was the engine just running hotter because the oil was starting to get nasty? Oh well...

I've gotta get silcone plumbing in that car soon. The rubber hose coupler holding my BOV on keeps coming loose because it has dried out a lot and isn't as flexible as it once was. I also need some better hose clamps all around. I think I'm going to finally put the new intake together this spring and finish off the other projects I've been in the middle of for so long. But then for those that know me I'll probably never get it done :I

****, I’ve been in Colorado snowboarding and golfing for the last week. You guys just keep on talking. What the hell is so cool about a 4-door? It might be cool if you are over 40 and have kids but I am 21 and prefer not looking like a tool. I am going to have to agree with battle scar about the bigger exhaust statement. We are not driving Hondas here. I came back to my parents this weekend and my little brother had exhaust, clear tail lights and chrome rims on his Audi A4, it made me want to cry.

I am with 2.5RS freak, I hate having a huge can on the back of my car but it was the only one I could find. To be fair though I only went to Advanced Auto Parts on Central Entrance. It wasn’t too bad though, they put it in for 50 bucks. I just wish I didn’t have it done in Duluth, where apparently it is cool to put your muffler on crooked. I like the Borla headers I got. I thought about Cobb equal length but after the horrible service I got when I bought the CAI, the huge price increase was not worth the few extra HP. I don’t really like the sound though. I don’t think my RS is fast enough to warrant that much noise.

I actually kind of regret tinting my windows and not just because I got a ticket for it (even though I did get caught going 90 in a 65 and that’s all I got). The sleeper effect is what true car guys want. I don’t know how much of a true car guy I am, but enough to appreciate the sleeper effect. It is hard with an RS though because I agree with AWD 101, the RS is the best looking Subaru of all time. It looks a lot faster than it is.

I have a sticker in my back window for a season parking pass to Shady Oak Beach. I think I win on the stickers.
